Paying Endowment
One of my mortgage endowment policies finishes in 2011. It's only £20.22/month and I have enough money to pay it all off, up to 2011. Is that a wise thing to do? My thinking is that I'm £20.22/month better off and the interest generated each year is on a larger sum. So I may get more money back.

Remortgaging and solicitors
Apologies for such basic questions, but I am just about to re-mortgage for the first time now that my fixed rate is nearing expiry. I am not moving house. If I choose to take out a new deal with my current lender, do I still need to instruct a solicitor? What exactly does a solicitor do in a re-mortgage?

Why a high failiure rate for mortgage advisers?
I am a little curious. There are a lot of negatives about the role of mortgage advisers here in the forum compared to IFAs. I would have thought, since an IFA or a financial adviser is trying to convince a client to invest their life savings into a fund that has a potential of losing their money, and based on current…

How is a house valuated
My mortgage provider has instructed the valuation on the property we're buying next week. We're putting down a 40% deposit on the Purchase price of the property. Mortgages for property that is above commercial premisis
My solicitor informs me that mortgages can sometimes be refused on property that is above commercial premises. Whilst this may not affect me because I have a fairly sized deposit, it may affect the re-sellability of the property I am looking at (it's located two floors above a business that sells windows). Does anyone know…
