Remortgaging and solicitors

Apologies for such basic questions, but I am just about to re-mortgage for the first time now that my fixed rate is nearing expiry. I am not moving house. If I choose to take out a new deal with my current lender, do I still need to instruct a solicitor? What exactly does a solicitor do in a re-mortgage?

If you stay with your lender their should be no need for solicitor.
The solicitor effectively ensures that the mortgage with the old lender is fully redeemed and that the charge on the property is cleared for the old lender and put in place for the new lender.
Many remortgage deals include free solicitor if you choose to use the lender's own.0 -
Thank you. That confirms what I expected to be the case.0
