Newb Mortgage question
Hey all, long time reader, first or second time poster (I forget which). I've just managed to get a job (3 months after finishing my degree) in Midsomer Norton, south of Bristol and Bath (and feel rather happy about it, as Bristol area is where I want to be, though my family home is only in Newport, South Wales anyway).…

mortgage advice please!
Thanks for reading We've been trying to sell our home for a long time as we hated the area, it was a bit of a 'panic buy' during the housing boom! We've had to resort to letting it now in order to be able to move. We've moved into rented accommodation ourselves simply so a move could be facilitated. In the current mortgage…

Mortgage type advice
Hi all, I need some advice on what type of mortgage will suit me best. I have just had a house built for me and my partner worth £495,000 but we are only paying back the cost of the build plus paying off our debts to my father in law. So we need to get a mortgage of around £210,000 to pay him back. I am not sure what type…

Minimum mortgage term?
Quick question for the brokers on here - do lenders have any minimums on their mortgage terms? OH and I are pondering the option of taking our mortgage out over only 10 years, possibly as low as 5 at a minimum. Would banks go for that? And can you get a 5 year fixed rate deal with a term of only five years?

Looking for some advice on mortgage - self cert or using a guarantor
My situation is that I have 200k and I am buying a house at 250k so I need a 50k mortgage. The issue is at the moment my earnings are low, but when I move they increase considerably. As I understand it I have two options. Either I go the self certificate route or I do have someone why will act as guarantor but I am not…

Mortgage insurance payout help
Bit of a long, winding problem this one, so please bear with me. My girlriend has a house bought with her ex-boyfriend. He was paying the mortgage on it, but living elsewhere (with a new partner). He did not pay her any childsupport officially, just £20 or so a week towards the care of their 2 young children (aged 2 and…

Hi, I'm new to the forum - so as not to waste anyones time I've put my main issue to the top, then elaborated on my situation further down. My question is: I wanted Nationwide to allow us to pay a 5k fee to leave our current mortgage product and go on to another mortgage product, still with Nationwide. The product I had in…

Are you on SVR voluntarily?
My tracker with Halifax ends in November and I'm seriously toying with the idea of staying on their SVR of 3.5%. My siutation is I've never really been a risk taker with my mortgage and commonly took fixed rates, two years ago I went for a tracker, must be pyschic as my rate is now 0.39% and I'm overpaying as much as…

Paying for Broker advice
Usually one to find deals online for myself but as we're looking to buy new house I thought I should speak to someone who might have some deals I wouldn't see. Quick question - I thought about just seeing the mortgage broker from our selling agent (Haart). I assume they get their fee from the lender and that, to me the…

SVR vs Fixed Rate
Hi, My husband and I bought our house nearly 2 years ago with a mortgage that has a 2 year fixed interest rate. When this is up it switches to a svr which is currently at 3.5%. Alternatively we've been offered to switch to a 3-year fixed rate of 5.29%. Obviously 3.5% is rather attractive but who knows how long this will…

Help understanding compounding of overpayments
I have done a spreadhseet and worked out I could save £132,000 interest on my £166,000 interest only 5% mortgage by making the maximum 10% (£16,600) overpayments and paying it off in 10yrs rather than 25yrs. When I look at £16,600 x 25yrs x 5% it works out about £20,750. I know its due to compound interest, but could…

Hello, I'm a first time buyer, well hopefully! I'm trying to arrange a meeting with a mortgage adviser to find out whether my partner and I could realistically get ourselves on the ladder.
