How long does it take on average from start to completion when remortgaging? I've read a few posts and some are saying 12 weeks for their application to be processed? My current deal runs until feb 09 and i was thinking to start in the new year but i don't want to leave it too late and go on to the SVR. Thanks in advance

Interest Only Mortgage- Is it wise?
My husband and I bought our first property last year, a 2 bed flat. A friend of ours, who is an estate agent, letting agent, and owns about 10 properties, recommended we get an interest only mortgage. He said in the future, when the value of our property is much higher, we sell and pay off the mortgage, and downsize. I…

Mortgage agreement taking an age - any ideas?
We have had an offer accepted on a house. The agreement in principle was already in place for a mortgage with the Nationwide which we had organised with our broker. We then applied proper for the mortgage but it seems to be taking an absolute age to process. The valuation has been done (on Monday) but we have not been able…

Can I get a mortgage with a bad credit rating and 2 months of self employment?
I'm guessing the answer is no, but there must be some companies that throw caution to the wind and lend anyway? I know I can keep up with the repayments.

Help - 2 properties but no deposit
My husband and I have just seen a house we like but until this we were not planning on moving. We have two properties already, one with a tiny mortgage (that is rented out) and one owned outright with an estimated combined equity of £250k (that is a conservative guess) - more than the house we have seen. However, we don't…

Disgusting and unjustified
I did a decision in principle for a client doing a Buy to Let last week with The Mortgage Works (part of Nationwide) and the valuation fee at the time was £285. Converting it to a Full Application today and the valuation fee has been increased to £375  . How can the valuation fee increase of £90 be justified when the…

Endowment surrender value dropping - sell or not?
My wife has an endowment policy with Legal & General. The policy was taken out in 1988 to cover £40,000 and the payments are about £60 per month. The policy is not used to guarantee any mortgage. We do not have to cash in the endowment we could keep it on as an investment if necessary. The policy is due to mature in 2013.…
