Getting a mortgage when you haven't actually started your job, but have a contract?
Hi My husband will soon be starting to train to be a teacher, and we are wanting to move house as soon as he gets a job as a teacher. I was wondering if it is possible to get a mortgage before actually starting a job, as long as you have a contract? With teaching, you usually secure a job in the Spring/early Summer to…

Mortgages for those with bad credit?
Can anyone here suggest where to go/look for mortgages for people like myself with a less than perfect credit history and a possible bankruptcy on the cards (Upon the advice of the CCCS). I'm on a DMP with the CCCS, but don't currently have any CCJs that I'm aware of and we've never missed a payment on the mortgage or…

Negotiating product fees...part II
Just thought you might like this rather amusing followup. After successfully agreeing a £199 fee on a new 5.19 2yr fixed rate with our current mortgage co (RBSC), I phoned 4 times in the last 10 days to chase why our papers to sign hadn't been sent out. Finally got through to someone today with some initative who said he'd…

Can I claim
Hi all, I am in the process of remortgaging from a two year fixed to a Nationwide five year fixed. No grumbles at all with them but the solicitor handling the legal bits and bobs for the Nationwide has brought something to my attention. When I bought the house two years ago and had my original two year deal with the…

Two Mortgage Queries
I'm in the process of remortgaging but i've just rang up the Abbey who i've got my current mortgage with to establish what is outstanding. I originally took out £128K on a two year fixed rate deal of 4.89% which expires on 2nd May. The Abbey told me that I owe £123,219.82 but when I arranged this my financial advisor gave…

Can I ditch advisor and go it alone?
I had advice from a broker to start a remortgage with Woolwich, but have been unhappy with the eventual product I ended up with - and doing my own investigations found another product with the same lender that better suits my needs. Now the broker wants more fees for re-instructing and the Woolwich refuse to discuss things…

Will we still get a CCJ on our credit report?
Hi guys, Was in the County Court this morning for about 1 minute for being in arrears for the mortgage. We had paid about 95% off before today and tried to get the court hearing adjourned by phoning them up and requesting to speak to the manager but he did not reply back. So we attended and luckily the case was adjourned…

Mortgage and loans
Hubby and I took out a car finance loan with Welcome and decided recently to get on the property ladder. We thought we would be able to hand the car over (we have 3 years left on it) and that would give us more money to put towards a mortgage. But Welcome say that we cannot do this unless we pay half of what we owe but we…

Remortgage before rates increase
For one reason or another we have been stuck in our IF mortgage now for about a year past the fixed period. We have had about 3 price increases so far with another one predicted on the cards. We have £51,500 of a mortgage and the rate we are paying is something like 6.3% (possibly a bit higher) and our payments per month…

Porting - Will I have to pay HLC again??
Hi, I am looking to port my mortgage across to a new property but the mortgage will still be 95%. When I initially took out the mortgage it was also 95% LTV and this incurred Higher Lending Charges. My question is whether this would mean I would need to pay Higher Lending charges again on porting the product? Many thanks…

Two different brokers which one shall I choose???
I have been to see 2 brokers who have recommended exactly same product. Both require fees, however the second broker I went to see was a lot more helpful, approachable and generally easier to get along with. However the first mortgage broker seemed to hint to me that because he was the first to recommend the product, if we…

Fixed rate fiasco?
Can someone please help? I have a fixed rate until August 2008 with Lloyds TSB. They sent me my mortgage statement and have increased my payments twice. When I've queried this, they've said its only the interest rate that is fixed, not the payments. It's nothing to do with insurance, apparently, it's to do with ensuring I…

Buy to let mortgage question
Hi I currently have a mortgage on the property that I live in - and also a mortgage on a buy to let flat I bought two years ago. Both mortgages are repayment mortgages, so when completing my tax return I do not have to pay income tax on the part of the income from the flat which pays for the mortgage interest, I therefore…

5% or 10% unsecured loan on 100% mortgage??
I have 2 mortgage offers on the table from Northern Rock. It is a 100% mortgage on a flat for £132k. Basically the options are; 95% mortgage, 5% unsecured loan at 6.49% or, 90% mortgage, 10% unsecured loan at 6.29% - both fixed for 5 years. The 6.29% is obviously cheaper and therefore looks most appealing. I am after…
