Negotiating product fees...part II

Just thought you might like this rather amusing followup. After successfully agreeing a £199 fee on a new 5.19 2yr fixed rate with our current mortgage co (RBSC), I phoned 4 times in the last 10 days to chase why our papers to sign hadn't been sent out. Finally got through to someone today with some initative who said he'd have another copy sent to me today. He called back in 5 mins saying the reason they never got sent is because they had a reduced fee of £199 on them and why on earth had this been agreed? He said that they have no authority to negotiate the product fees and the agent should never have done this. However he'd spoken to his manager and she agreed that they had to honour it and fortunately for me, they couldn't lower the fee - it was a case of all or nothing on their systems....so THEY WEREN'T GOING TO CHARGE ME ANYTHING!! w00t! another £199 saved!
He even said that they were now making a loss on us over the next two years

No, it was through their retention team in their call centre. I was quite chuffed that she agreed to drop to £199 as I'd heard that it had got much harder to get them to drop product arrangement fees. I'm guessing I haven't got a cat's chance in....of doing the same after this deal runs out in 2 years time LOL0
