Can I claim back mortgage fees?

Hi
Can anyone help at all? In 2001 I bought my first house with a 3 year fixed rate mortgage with Mercantile Building Society. The mortgage was 53k. 2 years into the term, we decided to move house and because we wanted a bigger mortgage we moved over to HSBC. Now unfortunately we were charged 2k to move basically this was paying back the discount interest that we had.
Do I have any rights to ask mercantile for some of this money back?
I am really confused, thanks to anyone who is able to help
