Mortgage Redemption Refunded - in full!
We paid off the balance of our mortgage last December and Abbey wanted £225 to discharge the mortgage, which I was not very happy about - as you can imagine! After having my compliant passed to head office, I've come home to a letter from Abbey tonight, waiving the fee. So the moral of the story is to fight the fee!

Does a bad credit record affect the rate offered on a re-mortgage?
This might seem like a stupid question but I am sure one of the brokers will be able to offer some good advice. Around 2 years ago they remortgaged to use some of the equity to pay off the…

Save it or pay off the mortgage?
We're tied into a 2 year deal at 4.9% (14 months left) at the moment, but can overpay at 1% of the overpayment. I'm trying to save as much as possible at the moment (ISA's, shares, premium bonds) and have about £25,000 scattered about. I'm trying to work whether it would it be beneficial to pay the £10K off the mortgage…

Redemption administration fee challenged
I recently tried to pay off my mortgage with the Yorkshire Building Society. They asked for £199 as a fee to close the account. I wrote them a letter challenging this and they immediately dropped it to £125 (which is what they say it was set at when I started the mortgage). I have rifled through my paperwork and cannot…

Buy to Let
I have a small flat purchased in 1999 with a buy to let mortgage (interest only) of £28,000. I can now afford to pay it off as I have an endowment which has matured. I can't work out if I am better off doing this and losing the 5.7% interest from Icesave and the tax relief I get on the payments of £173 per month (22%) or…

Extra Interest Penalties
I notice the exit fee debate . I remember several years back being stung for three months additional interest when redeeming my mortgage even though I was only ever on the SVR. Ok it may have been in the contract but surely this sort of practice was also dubious ?
