Mortgage Redemption Refunded - in full!

We paid off the balance of our mortgage last December and Abbey wanted £225 to discharge the mortgage, which I was not very happy about - as you can imagine!

After having my compliant passed to head office, I've come home to a letter from Abbey tonight, waiving the fee.

So the moral of the story is to fight the fee!

I have the same problem with the abbey - can you post a draft of the letter you sent so I can do the same....Thanks.
  • Anyone had any joy with Bristol and West in connection with waiving fees?
(or tell me which page I might find it on!!)

I didn't write, I rang and asked for specific details of what this fee covered. and where in the terms and conditions (I asked specifically what number the condition was)

After I was given some rubbish about it being to cover the cost of the annual statement etc I pointed out to them that I get my annual statement in March even though it was as at 31/12 and that I still didn't think that the fee was justified.

The lady I spoke to was very helpful and said that as I was obviously not satisfied with this explanation she would escalate the complaint up to head office and although it has taken a few weeks to deal with, I'm more than happy with the result....in fact I had the cheque today so I will pay Abbey their redemption fee now -although why we've had to go through this charade of me paying it and them sending me a cheque I'll never know!
