Using Student Loan to pay off mortgage?
Mr Penny-Wise will be at Uni for the next 3.5 years. At the moment his student loans & grants (about £5100 a year) are going into a couple of ISAs, as we can just about manage on my wage, and we will only have to dip into them in an emergency (we got the loans just so we could gain interest on them). If no emergency…

When is the Best Time to Overpay a Mortgage
I posted a thread back in January about remortgaging. Thanks for the response. My next question is is there a right time to overpay the mortgage? I'm asking because I took out my first mortgage in June of last year and I am thinking of remortgaging already. Trouble is I don't know if I should overpay on my current mortgage…

Mortage company problem!
Apologies if this is entirely inappropriate, but I am struggling to know who to turn to in this matter. I have tried in a couple of forums to no avail and scouring the web is yielding equally otiose results. I feel there is only one to start this, so I will tell the story: On the 1st of September 2003, I and a friend took…

Using overdraft to overpay mortgage
I wonder if anyone could tell me whether this makes sense. My new mortgage (4.95% fixed for 5 years) allows overpayments of £500 per month. I am rarely overdrawn but if I were HSBC would charge me 14.8% for the pleasure. If I were to overpay my £79,500 mortgage by £500 per month I calculate that I would knock 13.9 years…
