Reducing Years On Mortgage
Hi - I'm hoping I've come to the right thread. We have just made an appointment at the bank to reduce the years on our mortgage from 35 to 25 years, we bought the house two years ago when we had only one income. Now both of us are working (we also have 3 children) so can afford to put a little more into the mortgatge. Last…

Overpayments taken years off my mortgage!
I've been making overpayments for the last two years, rather than putting cash into savings (I have four months salary in ISAs though) I'm remortgaging now that the initial fix has ended - I've took seven years off my mortgage because of the overpayments! It's amazing how it all adds up!

Annoyed at being told I'm lucky....
I'm often told how "lucky" I am that I will be mortgage free in 6 years (fingers crossed) - I get annoyed at this as it makes it seem like it's all down to chance. I know I'm lucky to have a good job and some security, but I work for it and work to quite a strict budget in order to be able to overpay. I don't have…

Paypal Question
Hi, Firstly, apologies if this is a stupid question! I was wondering if it's possible to overpay a mortgage via a paypal account? Or do you have to transfer the money to a bank account and overpay from there? I've never had a paypal account, but will need to soon for bubblews and possibly swagbucks.

Save up and buy outright... crazy idea?
I am a recent (2 months ago!) graduate of the debt free wannabe boards and wanting to put savings into owning our own place... I find it really difficult not to think about mortgages now as another debt black hole - my head says it's a 'good' debt because of all the money we'd get to keep that currently goes to our…

Is there a central registry for property deeds?
So you have made it, you own your own home and are mortgage free. The bank relinquishes all title to the deeds and for obvious reasons your solicitor offers to hang onto them for "safe keeping" But like all businesses, it changes hand, and moves premises. Plus you move around. Is there somewhere to apply to to find out who…

Meandering to mortgage free
Hi, After using this site for over 7 years(!) and following the MFW diaries for around 4 years, I've finally decided to start a diary. A little bit about me: Up until January 2012 I was fit as a fiddle and working full time in IT technical support. Then one day in January 2012, everything stopped. I could barely move and…

Biting the Bullet - Shortie's MFW Diary
Hello:wave: I've umm'd and ahh'd quite a while now about starting a MFW diary but something just feels like the 'right' time to start it now. I read other people MFW and DFW diaries as I find them very inspiring, but I don't want to gatecrash someone else's diary with my own waffle so I'll give my own a shot in the hope…

My first home.:o Mortgage Dec 2013: £142,500; LTV 75%…

Compound interest calculator?
Hi people, I'm reasonably new to MF aspirations, so thanks for helping me out in advance. I'm trying to find a straightforward calculator or formula for working out the amount of interest I will save for overpaying x amount of my mortgage. I can't guarantee to make the same payment every month, more as and when. I've used…

Overpayment rules...
Hi guys, I have a mortgage which I've been overpaying for a while, previously had 2 sub accounts and have managed to pay one of them off. I called up to increase my overpayments from £170 per month to £400 per month in an attempt to become mortgage free quicker. This was done quite simply over the phone. I then had a…
