Woodburning stove in existing fireplace
Hi We have an old house with a newly inspected and ok, newly swept chimney. In the interests of efficiency and not aesthetics, we are looking at removing the grate and replacing it with a woodburning stove. Due to the size of the room, and the poor insulation of it, we have calculated we need a 6kw stove. The fireplace…

free smart home tech
first time poster, be gentle..... My husband has just signed up to Bulb and instead of the usual 50quid offer he found a link buried on the Samsung site giving away a smart things hub and 2 smart plugs which has a value of 139 quid. He's been keen on starting to start automating things but it always seemed so expensive to…

Home heating controls
Apologies - this is a double post as I've posted in the "In my home" section as well before I saw this section. I hope that's okay, but if not, I'd ask the moderators delete whichever post they think is in the wrong place..... Okay, so I've let all of the advances on home heating controls pass me by and I currently have a…

We'll shortly be buying a new-build with LPG (rural area). I've not had LPG before. Finding a good solar PV supplier
For a while I’ve been thinking about getting solar panels and battery installed - partly because it will save some money (eventually), and partly because of the environmental benefits. Not simple, because I’ll need planning permission - all permitted development rights have been withdrawn on our estate. How do I go about…

Evening all, just wondering if anyone could throw some light on the problem we are having with a recently installed Fireline 5KW mulitfuel stove. I’ve previously had a stove (Morso squirrel) and it was fantastic, so I know to use properly seasoned/kiln dried wood and how to start a fire and use the vents to get a fire…

Wood Burning Stove gives chemical smell
I have had a Charnwood Country 4 installed for over 2 years now - and gets used regularly over winter. However, it seems that whenever it gets going and hot - a chemical smell is emitted, which then starts to fade away the longer it has been burning. This smell / fumes tends to cause slight headache. The log stove is…

Utility Warehouse Debt Collection Letter
Hi, When I moved into my house the previous owner was with Utility Warehouse, meaning they automatically took over my energy supply before I switched to EDF. I initially received an extremely high bill from them which I queried and it turned out that they hadn't correctly recorded my switch date so had over charged me. I…

New Home with Oil Heating
I've recently moved to a house with Oil heating that heats the house and the water. Is it better to have the hot water on constant or to come on 2/3 times a day e.g. Morning/Evening or Morning/Afternoon/Evening? Any other tips on using oil heating welcome :)

Consultant needed
Hi Our community centre has ground source heating and solar panels but the electric bill is still £1,000 a month. Is there such a thing as a consultant who can come and look at both systems and see where they can improve the system as the hall isn't that warm either! Thanks

wood burning stove gasket
Our stove, Aarrow Sherborne medium needs a real overhaul to get it back up to scratch. I'll do it myself but am struggling to find the gaskets for the glass doors. Do I need to use the same type of gasket that came with the stove or are there universal types that I can use?
