Consultant needed

Hi
Our community centre has ground source heating and solar panels but the electric bill is still £1,000 a month. Is there such a thing as a consultant who can come and look at both systems and see where they can improve the system as the hall isn't that warm either!

You could try the Energy Savings Trust for recommendations or the Ground Source Heatpump Association ( https://www.gshp.org.uk/ )

Many of the problems associated with heatpump systems (apart from poor or under specified systems) is the way that they are being operated.

Many people still try to use them in an on/off manner like a conventional high temperature boiler system which isn't really suitable as the response time is much slower with a heatpump.

To get round this they crank up the temperatures because they want to feel a hot radiator and to reduce the heating times which increases the cost and in a lot of cases utilises the back-up immersion heater.

Are you turning the heating off overnight and then hoping to reheat the place during the day or for short periods just when the place is occupied

I am inclined to agree with Matelodave, as it does look like your centre is trying to use the gshp as a normal heating system.

Can you give more information.
What size is the hall in m2 and the size of the pump and make?
What temps are you trying to reach?
Are you using timers for on and off?
From what you are saying it looks like electrical backup heating is switching in, which could be the reason for the high bills.

PS My own hall has an elec bill of £1,800 - gas heated - so £1000 is probably not exceptional

The OP said £1000 per month, so £12000 pa is still quite a lot for a GSHP system.

We could do with some more details of the hall couldn't we.

I know some big halls - lots of stage shows, cafes, catering ........ outside floodlighting for football pitches ..............
