What should I do?
I have a loan which I have one payment left until it’s completely paid off. I got an email today which reads: I’m not 100% sure what it means. But should I leave it or ask to receive an interest rebate? This payment of £700 means I would be paying off my loan 3 months early.

Student Loan Write Off Loophole Discriminates Against People with Mental Illness
I am writing this with a sense of despair and anger. Honors Student Loans are using a loophole to prevent me from deferring my loans. They are using another rule that I consider discriminatory against anyone with a mental illness that prevents them from working. In my case, I've not been able to work since 2006. The…

SFE student loan declined, now what? Should we use a private SF company?
Our son has been declined his student loan by SFE based on residency as we lived away from the UK for 10 years. He doesn't meet the 3 year residency in the UK rule, he is born here and a British passport holder/citizen. Doesn't seem to matter. So my question is which is the best way for us to get financial support? Have no…

Potential loan after ReMortgage
Hi all, we are currently looking at swapping our mortgage deal over. It's a rate switch with our existing lending that should be completed soon and start in June/July. Also we are thinking of trading my misses car in and taking a personal loan out to provide funds to get her something newer. (Shes had her current car for…

SLC - Where is my loan Transaction History?
Hey guys, It would be great to know if anyone here has any info regarding obtaining a payment history of your student loan? Perhaps I am missing something from the SLC site, but I find it a bit strange that SLC does not let you clearly view historical payment information, such as:* Incoming payments * Overpayments *…

Getting a student loan refund
I pay self-assessment and after making my last payment in Jan 2021 I am now in credit on my student loan and would like a refund. I have online accounts for both and there are no options to request a refund with either. I won't go into the details but I have given up trying to get a reply from HMRC and SLC. It's not a huge…

Quick question regarding Sainsbury's loan Overpayment/Settlement
Quick question: I've asked for a settlement figure from Sainsburys which is higher than the remaining outstanding amount (£4064 vs. £4019 on a 5 year loan @ 6.10% APR). I read in another thread that it may be "Moneysaving" to overpay all but £1 in order to avoid some of the charges as follows: "This settlement figure…

Do I have a claim
I had a Sainsbury's loan and got into difficulties. Had a mental breakdown, lost my job and marriage. Eventually set up new payment plan with Sainsburys which was honoured. In 2019 I was informed that payments had been missed however it was there error. My payments were not being credited to my loan account. For my trouble…

Improper letter from Sainsburys Bank
The other day I received a letter from Sainsbury's Bank saying I owed £94 because of a returned cheque (I haven't used cheques in years) from March 2020. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with their 'Recovies' people at a call centre run by Blair, Oliver & Scott. The address for the call centre is in Fife, but the accents…

Guarantor for a [Not a loan] Hire Purchase Agreement?! - Help!!
My father in law is in serious debt troubles. In short, a failed business has compounded years of losing money into a substantial debt (circa £50k) which has mainly been hidden until now. Just found out that he coerced my mother-in-law (his wife) into signing up to some weird "Finance Agreement". She foolishly signed on as…

Guarantor Loans Complaints
Hi, I'm not sure if anyone can help me, I'm new here. I recently opened up two complaints with Amigo and UK Credit for the mis selling of guarantor loans. I requested these were looked in to by the company as I felt these were mis-sold to me on the basis of my financial situation along with the hardship and further…

Does anyone know if student loans actually saved tax payers money over the old system?
Giving that the student loans were meant to save tax payers for footing the bill, and that actually only 17.5 % pay off the loan in full - has this system actually saved money? My guess is that it has not. That we may be paying more than before. It seems to me only the Student Loan Company and related organisations make…

Provident personal credit refund
Hi. I had a favourable adjudicator decision from the FOS following my complaint about unaffordable loans. Provident agreed to settle in line with the adjudicator decision. This was way back in Aug 2020. Despite contacting provident and the FOS many times, I have still not received anything. Provident say they are dealing…

Credit Union Loans
I’m a member of my local Kent Savers Credit Union and tried a few times to apply online for a personal loan or a child benefit loan. Each time I get to a point in the application where the link to the following stage fails and I can’t progress further with my application. I’ve tried to get help directly with them via email…

Guarantor for an online course
My granddaughter who is 19 asked me to be a guarantor for a loan that she wanted to take out for an online course, I agreed as she is in permanent employment with the NHS. Unfortunately, after two months of doing this course she felt that this was not for her and wanted to change her career direction. We have both emailed…

ARP - loan checker
Hi, My partner used the money saving expert loan checker before applying for a loan with Santander. The loan checker came back with ARP of 3%, chance of acceptance 90%, I understand that rates are flexible, but on applications for the loan Santander offered him ARP 18.5% which is ridiculous higher than 3%. Wondering if…

Cheapest loans at 2.8% disappearing? New rate? Better to borrow now?
The latest MSE Money Tips newsletter states: So - if those 2.8% rates may be disappearing - does anyone know what's being offered instead? Are those same companies raising rates and if so what to? My wife and I are planning on some home improvements this year and were going to borrow to fund it. We don't need the money for…

Old style student loan write off date
Hi, I had mortgage style student loans in 1997, 1998 and 1999. The last of these was paid off (Erudio...yeah, I probably shouldn’t have bothered!), so just the 97 and 98 loans remain. First, my understanding is that these loans are written off 25 years after the date the last loan was paid to me- do I have that right? If…

Loans settlement query
Hi, I took out a loan for 11k with HSBC in June 2019 (first payment July 2019) @16.9% over 3 years (36 Installments @ £386) So far I have made 21 of the 36 payments and today enquired about a settlement figure, which is quoted as 5552. If I pay the remaining 15 payments as normal the total would be 5784 so I was expecting…
