Rotary Line Hole Too Small
Hi all, The house I bought had a pre-existing hole for a rotary line however the hole is some 35mm and my new line is 50mm in diameter - I'd like to use the same hole but just cannot find an expansion adaptor (if indeed they exist). Is my only option to dig a new hole? thanks.

Painting bare masonry and concrete
Hi all, I have a small bare brick wall that I would like to paint grey. What needs to go on the wall before the masonry paint? Anything special? I also have an internal bare concrete step which I want to paint with garage floor paint. Same question, is a mist coat enough or is there something special that needs to be used…

Underlay to help make laminate floor warm
We currently have laminate floor in our living room which is really cold on your feet (north facing room). We have just had an extension built so are replacing the floor. We will lay new laminate floor on the extension (over concrete) which joins to our living room and so extend the new laminate in there too (over…

Next doors extension overhangs
So I have recently moved into a new detactched property, with garage. We planned to extend above our garage as most people in the street have. Once we had moved in we soon realised that next doors guttering and soffits overhang our garage wall.. which would affect us building up.. Where do we stand?? Or is this normal?

Kitchen tap problem
I have a kitchen tap similar to this one. Recently the cold flow has greatly reduced, water pressure is fine on the other taps in the house and hot water flow seems normal. Any ideas on the problem and how to fix it. I have tried soaking the tap head in vinegar to remove any limescale which hasn't helped.

Bathroom cable and plastering
Hi I’m currently redoing my bathroom myself and need to address the cable situation on this wall. I intend to fit a Dimplex fan heater up high near the switch and an electric towel rail. Plasterer said it would be best to chase the cable into the wall then either board or plaster over. Another said he could lay and glue…

Can't find a 50cm width electric oven
Hi people! Our built-under gas oven has stopped working (a Bosch). I can't find a replacement as the space is only 56cm, so the max width we could get is 50cm to allow for ventilation. The standard width is around 60cm, and the only 50cm i can find are freestanding cookers with hobs attached. Which would mean cutting up…

Party Wall - astride boundary - what's possible with an Award?
Hello, I'm hoping someone can give me a second opinion. We are planning an extension on a terrace property and have a few considerations. External wall installation
Hi, I have received the quotation for an external wall insulation and it says the following:- We have assumed that access to soil stack does not include us having to remove existing bathroom tiles and replacement. Please advice if this is different. There is a water tap outside of the house both front and garden. And…

New boiler and potential layout reconfiguration
Our boiler is limping along at the moment. We think the issue might be the heating valve, but it's blown three circuit boards in under two years and had a fan replacement during that time as well. We're nervous to spend the money having the valve replaced (it's not covered on our insurance unless the boiler is actually…

Neighbours Fire
Hi all My neighbour's garage burned down a few weeks ago and the flames have burned 3/4 of a mature bush in my garden at the border. The fire also destroyed a panel of the party fence. They haven't been in touch. Although no one was injured, I feel that they should have spoken to me by now about the damage to the bush and…

Bath panel fitted with screws and screw caps
Hi everyone, We are new to the DIY game and have had a bath fitted by a plumber. The bath is ok, the panel is obviously a different colour to the bath but our main gripe is that they have used six screws and screw caps that stick out 1/4 inch to fit the bath panel. It looks unsightly. All the pictures we see in brochures,…

EON Eco Scheme
Hi does anyone have experience with the above scheme re new boiler installation? I’m a single mum and I’ve applied for this scheme as my boiler keeps losing pressure. I’ve had it fixed once and it cost me £100 this year alone and similar amounts the previous years. EON offer the boiler for £395 if you qualify but the…

Rights with neighbours overhanging trees?
Just looking for some advice on a some of our neighbours trees. Our neighbour has three trees in a row, two of them over hang our property fence while one is further back. The row of trees block sunlight to the right side of the property and our garden. One tree is a conifer. Both these cause tree droppings in our garden,…
