Fibreglass vs EPDM
I have a 2nd story flat roof that needs replacing. The size is about 4m x 3m. Is there a general consensus about which is better? Or is it a decision governed by price? Thanks guys.

Gardeners? Should I pick up all dead leaves?
I am guessing the simple answer is yes however..... I have a deep border along the back of my garden - about 80cm-1m depth by the whole length of the garden, around 20m long. There are very high (laurel?) hedges behind this border. The border itself is (was!) full of buddleia/fushia/forsythia/weigela shrubs all overgrown…

Undermount sink has come away from worktop.
We had a quartz worktop fitted about 4 weeks, and part of the fitting included the fitting of an undermount sink (new, Franke, supplied by us). The sink has come away from under the worktop already. It is just resting on the very edges of the units underneath. I contacted the company who fitted it, and enclosed pictures.…

Sound dampening party wall? Soundstop Panels
So we have some pretty loud neighbours. They;re not too bad but they talk pretty loud and they have a boisterous two year old. I have a 4 month old baby that startles awake quite a lot, he seems determined not to get used to the noise, to be fair it's annoying to me too. I want a little soundproofing in the party wall in…

Alternatives to air-con for a flat
Can anyone recommend or suggest alternatives to aircon suitable for a one bed flat. I already have a dehumidifier but the flat really just seems to hold on to the heat, I understand this is worsened by my having only the one external wall. I know you can get a fan as well as keeping windows open but that just moves the air…

Build on right of way.
Mother in law lives in a terraced house, she has a right of way across the neighbour's garden which is shown on the deeds of both houses. The neighbour has submitted a planning application for an extension over the ROW. Can the neighbour vary the ROW without her agreement?

Ruddy smell in the hallway.
We got a new DPC done last Jan when we moved in. 20 months later there is an awful smell in the hallway. Have taken up laminate, and lifted a couple of the original floorboards. Can't see any mould, but it's clear the smell is coming from there. Somewhere. Have arranged from the DOC company to come back out under the…

Ceiling stain - leak? Or something else?
Hi all, When I moved into my new home, there was a circular, black stain on my living room ceiling right near the corner. It's about the size of a circular drinks coaster. I sealed the stain and painted over it as I did with the rest of the ceiling. Unsurprisingly, the stain has started to return. It looks like a brown…

Advice about noise
I moved into my current house last year and am getting increasingly frustrated by the noise from my next door neighbour's dogs. She has two: both bark loudly at various times of the day, and quite excessively when she goes out to work (and leaves them all day), although they do calm down when she's driven off. Sometimes…

oven tripping electrics
Hello, I have a Neff oven that today started tripping my electricity. I ran some tests to try identify where the issue might be without much success. essentially on a lower temperature everything works fine, the thermostat kicks in and out without problems. If I put the temp to 200C though, after a few minutes it trips…

Dampness/humidity
My wife and I moved into our new flat a couple of months ago. Before buying, we had an independent damp surveyor come and check things over after a homebuyers survey had reported 'dampness'. The indie recommended the front bay living room wall should have a damp membrane installed and that new subfloor vents should be…

hob extrator hole. 100mm or 125mm?
Hi I wanted to fit a 125mm hob extractor hole. My builder does not have a 125mm core and said they can either do a 100mm hoole and enlargen it to fit 125mm. Or suggest that I cange to 100mm tubing. I'm worried that 100mm is too small for the extractor and it might strain the motor and cause it to fail. OTOH 100mm would…

Best Place for Carbon Monoxide Detector
I know it's recommended to get one in every room that has a fuel burning device. We have an open fire and an old boiler (15 years + by the look of it). I'm thinking more the boiler, and thus placing it in the kitchen would be good? For reference, we only have one smoke alarm (again, pretty old but still works) at the top…

Black mould in dining room
I'm looking for some advice please! We have a stone-built old house (1840 ish). It had rot and damp when we bought it and we spend a considerable amount of money with a damp company having it all fixed (or so we thought) just four years ago. In this one room, they applied damp course and put in two underfloor vents and we…
