Skirting board issue
We put down a new wooden floor in the house, and replaced the skirting board at the same time. The new skirting board we opted for came with a very neat white vinyl wrap on it, doing away with the need to paint it, or so we were told and so sold. The floor was fitted well but the skirting board has small nail heads showing…

I have just spent 2 1/5 hours removing tiles from a 1 metre by 45 cm and 60 by 45 cm wall, it was a corner, and I am knackered. I also broke my chisel. Also one of these oscillating saw/chisel things are useless. I still have the opposite corner to do and a wall 3 metres long under the wall cabinets and 15mm tiles along…

Damp damage: incorrect CWI?
Several years ago (I need to find out precisely how many) mum had the walls on her 30s semi filled. Recently, a bad damp problem has developed in the front corner walls. We had a damp company round this morning to have a look at it. Externally, the front of the house is lower than road level, so our driveway adjoins the…

Tumble Dryer
Ok, so I need to buy a tumble dryer :p . I did consider getting a washing machine/dryer in one - but initial research suggests that it's probably better to get a separate one (especially considering the current washing machine is still going strong - 9 years after purchase). So, recommendations please. What should I be…

as title, we have been experiencing a high pitched whistle from our plumbing for some time and I couldn't work out where it was coming from. Replacing a shower yourself
I have an old gainsborough 2000 shower that doesn't really heat water anymore except in summer. Looking inside one of the wires has caused the plastic to melt where it is screwed into the junction. Also, the main switch to it in the airing cupboard has jammed permanently on. I have opened it and cannot see any apparent…

log burner
Hopefully going to get a log burner installed before the winter. Just a small one 5kW max. Just intended as a luxury, no ambitions to heat the whole house will only be on for cold winter evenings.
