Why do people move and for how much?
Apologies if this sort of thread is already out there, feel free to direct me to it if that's the case. DH and I are considering moving from a 4 bed terrace to a 4 bed detached. Mortgage increase would be 100k. We currently live in a small town in a nice area with perfect neighbours except one side of our shared wall! Loud…

What To Offer (2)
So I've seen a house today needs a lot of work. Anything large enough in the areas I'm looking at will do. It's a probate property, grandad died, family are in Spain/Jersey and not interested in living in London. Agent told me that during the crazy boom that took place around here in last 18 mos or so pre Brexit, it was on…

I'm a first time buyer looking to get a flat in London. I have a deposit of £145,000 through inheritance. Should I look into one of the help to buy developments, even with a considerable deposit? Service Charge Management Fees
I have recently moved into a new flat and have been given the service charge cost estimates for the building for the financial year. Some of the costs seem out of proportion so wondering if others can shed some light on what is reasonable. The building is 14 flats comprising 2 floors and managed by an agency on behalf of…

Dodgy sellers or an over-cautious buyer?
I'm buying a property that was bought as a 'project' and renovated by the sellers. We're now 15 weeks into the process and it's dragging. I've asked for some paperwork and details of the work that was done several times, but the sellers (or their solicitors) seem to be unable to provide me with what I'm asking for. They…

Estate Agent won't give us details on chain
Hi All, Would it be reasonable to expect the estate agent who is representing your vendors to disclose the length of the chain to you? We are in the process of buying a property and it turns out that our vendor changed the property he was buying a few weeks ago (we weren't told and found out by accident), thus creating a…

Fining Landlord for Non-Protection of Deposits
Hi guys, I am looking for some opinions on taking the current landlord to court over non-protection of our deposit. I’m personally against the idea, however my partner is for it – and whilst we haven’t vacated the property yet, it’s something she has been looking into in more and more detail so as to understand the process…

Extending New Build Garden
Hi, I bought a semi-detached new-build property last year and have already out-grown the rear garden. As we are semi-detached, we have a small patch of land (about 8m2), that we are considering putting an offer in for. I spoke to someone in the development's sales office (they are still building half of the estate), but…
