White shutters do they add value?
My OH wants to get those white shutters for most of the windows in our new build once we get in. I do like them and haven't shopped around yet but they seem expensive. He says it will add value as will be sold on with the house. I can't see us moving in the next 5 years and also worried these will date?

Hi guys I am new to this. I am in real need of advice. We moved out of our previous property one month ago, our landlord was out of the country at the time so his son came to do the inspection and handover keys. We were led to believe that he would have the deposit with him but he didn't so we wrote out a statement…

First time post, hopefully I do it right.. I have found my way here after panic Googling. Long story short, we accepted an offer on our house 6 weeks ago today. House purchase
Dear all, A general question if I may and wonder if anyone else has been involved in such a venture. History: My wife and I owned a property in UK, sold it and moved here to Portugal. Question: If we sold this property here and moved back to UK, would/could we be classed as "First-time buyers"? Any advice appreciated Thank…

New Stamp Duty
My wife and I are buying a house. She owns our existing property in her name only. We plan to rent this out. I was advised by my IFA that I buy the new home in my name only, as a first time buyer, and leave the rental property in my wives name, we would avoid the new stamp duty charges. However, my solicitor reckons we'll…

Shared Ownership & Calculating Stamp Duty
Hello, I'm currently in the process of 'staircasing' up to 100% of my property, and I'm struggling to calculate how much stamp duty I will need to pay. I first purchased a 30% share of the property. The property was worth £215,000 at the time, so I bought £64,500 worth of shares, and didn't have to pay any stamp duty at…

Home Buyers report - Bay Window Distorted and floor timbers
I've had the report back and I've been going over the issues. Most are minor and/or will be fixed with our planned extension. The parts that are worrying me are: The walls to the front bay centre section are timber framed and clad externally with tiles. Internally, the external walls have been…

BTL/Lodgers
I saw this in the weekly MSE mail and thought it was quite an interesting (if morally dodgy!) idea. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/make-money?utm_source=MSE_Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=12-Apr-16-v1&utm_campaign=nt-bignote-three&utm_content=5#lodger If you've got one BTL property, could you register it as…

Conveyancers/solicitors
Hi, We're FTB so I apologise if this seems like a remedial question. We're still looking for the property we like, having had a meeting with a mortgage broker and working out what we can afford. However, on top of that, I am trying to work out who I may want to instruct for the conveyancing. Friends I've asked have only…

valuation, cracks
Seen a property i want, mortgage would be with BM solutions. Worried about when it comes to valuation as there are some cracks in the walls, my opinion would be its from when they changed the double glazing as the property has diffrent lintels above doors and windows as the other propertys on the street at the back. The…

New Stamp Duty Question
Hopefully a simple one to answer. Now that the new stamp duty changes are in and anyone buying a second property gets clobbered with the increased rate I just wondered when this is due? Reason I ask is my parents are looking to downsize from their 4 bedroom house to a smaller bungalow. However, the bungalow they have found…
