Flat next to railway line
How put off a flat would you be if it was situated alongside a (busy) railway line? I am looking for some flats and seems you can get more space for your money there, but the flats have been on the market for a while so I wonder if people are put off buying them so they are hard to sell?

Is damp worth bothering with?
A surveyor from a quite large company providing free damp inspections took a surprising attitude when he visited my house. He told me that he has damp patches in his own home, but they don't bother him so he doesn't do anything about them. While he said that dealing with timber rot in the floorboards and foundations was…

Is Double Glazing for zero noise possible??
Hey everyone, looking for some advice on double glazing for sound reduction please. The house we have found & love is on a main road. To be precise, it is a main route into a city 2 lanes each way 40mph limit. So given most people’s attitude to speed limit imagine a 45mph speed of vehicles across 4 lanes. No central…

Church Commissioners...
Hi all. We are in the midst of trying to buy a property that has access over an unmade lane, which is owned by the Church. The problem is that the right of access is on a rolling three-month contract, which has restrictive covenants such as not being able to drive down the track between midnight and 6am, and never being…

Valid Section 21
I've seen quite a bit of contradictory advice on the net about the validity of section 21(b) for a periodic tenancy. It was always my belief that a section 21(1)(b) could only be validly served for a fixed term tenancy not a periodic one. Serving a section 21(1)(b) for a tenancy that has become periodic would make the…

Completion on Friday 13th!
It is possible we may complete on February 13th which is a Friday. My partner, who I thought was relatively sane, says 'no way' is he moving in that day and reckons the other parties won't either. After the stress and turmoil of the whole process I would do the move then...and in the nude if necessary just to get into the…

Big damp patch on carpet
Hi all - I'm cross-posting this on the DIY board as I'm not sure where to put it! Our Plumber can't get to us until after the weekend thanks to other commitments and the snow, so I'm hoping to get some ideas of what this might be. OH is very DIY-minded and extremely handy so maybe we won't even need the Plumber, but I…
