London property prices !!!!!!

Wifes man lived in Colliers Wood somewhere around Fulham football ground area I believe.

Nan lived in 2/3 bed terraced house with tiny garden and no off street parking and the house was in generally poor condition (no CH, old windows and interior untouched for decades).

When the old girl died the house was put on the market.

Here in North Northants where we live the house would have sold for £90-£100,000.

In Colliers Wood, it sold within days at full asking price for £320,000 needing thousands more spent on it.

I was gobsmacked !!!!!

Enjoy the windfall! if that cash will buy several similar where you live then you could easily be living mortgage free.
  • Truthfully, 320K is barely anything in terms of London prices.
  • DS bought a two bed, 600 sq ft flat in Colliers Wood in 2011, paying £20k less than we did at the same time for a six bed, 2500 sq ft house in need of total renovation (unmortgageable and uninhabitable) in Wiltshire.

Three years later we both sold our properties -

DS - having spent around £10k on *improvements* (kitchen, bathroom, replastering, redecoration) and

Us - having spent £100k+ on extending, rewire, replastering, three bathrooms, new cast iron rads, new kitchen, replastering, redecoration, garden landscaping

The two properties achieved the same sold price ;):o

It's crazy! Having never been involved in buying or selling in a quickly changing market, I honestly couldn't understand the pressures. Before now that is. I'm just grateful we aren't buying in London.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

No need for the sarcasm !!!!

I'm not a Londoner, visit once in a blue moon and don't really see the attraction of city living.

I merely posted as I had heard of the London bubble but to sort of experience it shocked me somewhat.

Unfortunately OH isn't getting all the cash, just a small percentage, but will be a few thousand.
