Whose responsiblity is arranging boiler repair and staying at home to let them in?
I rent a one bedroom flat which has a boiler which has been leaking since starting the tenancy. The first time I reported this to the landlord, he kindly arranged for this to be repaired and dealt with the workmen directly. It is now a few weeks later and it is playing up again, leaking all over the kitchen work surface…

Energy supplier in new house
Hi, we've recently moved and had spoken with our energy supplier before moving asking to continue with them in the new property. When we moved we found we were placed on a very expensive rate with the previous occupiers' supplier and were told it could take up to 6 weeks to change over to who we want to be with. My…

How long should a homebuyers report take? Think we have been done!
So we paid for a homebuyers report. What they did not know was we live next door but 2 from the property we are buying. We saw a suited man arrive and carry a trowel, spirit level and a small set of steps into the property at 9.40am. I checked again at 10.25am and his car was gone!! There was no way this man could have…

Breaking an AST?
I currently rent and have just started a 6 month AST but am now looking to move to a different part of the country. Terrible timing I know. I would like a new job to emerge after the 6 months when I'm onto a rolling contract but life doesn't always work out that way. My question is what would the penalty be if I found…

Debt for home improvements
Hi. Hubby and I have always been pretty smart when it comes to finances. We were consious to use credit when we were students to build up our credit score, but always made sure we paid them off in time. Other than that (and student loans) we have never really used credit, and we're good savers saving for a house deposit…

Buying Freehold House With Restrictive Covenants - No Pets??
Hi, we were in the process of purchasing our dream house, a very nice 3 bed semi with parking (nothing extravagant) The house sits on the grounds of a private estate, the private estate has a hall that has been converted into leasehold flats. This would mean that I share access to the property and have to pay a monthly…

Rent to Buy
Is anyone currently on this scheme? I am looking at going on this scheme as I have been recently declined for a mortgage. The flat is new and will cost £580 to rent a month. I earn £23k at the moment. Should I jump on this and whilst renting, save up to buy it in the future?

Hi All I'm sorry if this is another how long is a piece of string question and it's been done to death - I've looked through the waiting to exchange section and can't really find what I'm looking for. I'm in the process of buying a house - I'm technically a FTB so no chain behind me - the people I'm buying off are buying a…

First Time Buyers - Manchester - suggestions?
Hi! Me and my husband are First Time Buyers looking to purchase our first house together in Manchester. We have lived in Salford Quays for 4 years now and love it but renting is really starting to seem like a waste of money (currently paying £850pcm for a two bedroom apartment)! Ideally we would like to live in South…

Short term let.
Long story short(ish). Anyone have any suggestions (or experience of similar) on where we can find somewhere without a 6 month commitment? We are pretty flex on location and currently are looking throughout Buckinghamshire but can throw the net wider if required. We are selling our house and the house we are buying needs…

Experiences with snagging companies
Hi all, I'm looking for experiences, both good and bad, from anyone who has used a snagging company when buying a new build house. Did you think the cost was worth it? Which company did you use? I'm buying a 2 bedroom house so my research suggests maybe £300-400. Obviously not a small amount, but if it saves me chasing the…

The estate agent told us that we could achieve between £750 - £775 monthly rent if we purchased it through a buy-to-let and it is listed at 'offers above £140,000 What does 'offers above £140,000' mean? Does…

Cash vs mortgage buyer
Hi, I have two offers for my property. One is a cash buyer and the other requires a mortgage. The difference between the two offers are £600, cash buyer's offer the lower of the two. On paper, the cash buyer option sounds more appealing. Are there any pit falls with choosing a cash buyer over one that requires a mortgage?
