Noise between flats
Inspired by another thread... Is there a way to tell before moving in if a flat has thin walls/likely to have noise issues? I'm in the process of buying one, and I've viewed it in the middle of the day both in the week and at the weekend, but I've not been there in the evening yet. I haven't heard anything so far, but I'm…

Damp in rented property
I'm posting on behalf of my mum who lives in a rented cottage. It's a very old stone cottage, probably a few hundred years old. Why will my house not sell?
My house has been on the market since January, with few viewers and only one crazy offer. :( It is a well presented family home, 4 beds, 2 baths, a toilet, large dining kitchen, huge drive, back lawned garden. I am with 3 agents, one has mysteriously stopped their Rightmove link, the other I have a ongoing problem with due…

Stamp Duty and bust
I've seen a house which is £530k and I just discovered that anything over £500k incurs 4% stamp duty whereas under its 3%. Do you think I can offer £499,999. It sounds a bit cheeky but would mean I wouldn't have to pay the 4% stamp duty and also I would be making a reasonable offer on the asking price.

Dodgy student landlord company?!
I'm 18 and have signed my first tenancy agreement to live in a block of student flats. I have paid my bond and was also asked to pay my first four weeks rent before moving in, which I have done. The date on my contract is 13th September and as I have already paid rent from then until the 10th October I was expecting to…

Renting to family

Leasehold Land?
My parents-in-law recently bought a bungalow and were offered the chance to buy a piece of adjacent land for £4,000 which would have trebled the size of their garden. Now it turns out the seller only owns a 36 year lease on the land, and the freehold is owned by a London company, so their solicitor has put the purchase on…

House Exchange..Where to Look??
Related to another thread There doesn't seem to be anywhere for homeowners to trade up or down....without an Estate Agent. I have a very simplistic attitude to life. I can't afford to live in my home. I'm prepared to trade down for a cash settlement. With all the power of the net I can't see anywhere that caters for this…
