Starting new job in a new city in 8 days time no place to stay urgent advice

Hi i need some advice on my options, i got a job in i am meant to start on the 22 of sept, my first job as a graduate and also my first real job after years of dead end jobs.
anyway i got into a little pickle, the place i got a job is 1hr 20 mins away by train, anyway i havent got a place to stay yet, when uni finished in early aug i was about 1850 overdraft maxed on barclays student and 500 maxed on halifax student.
anyway since i had worked so hard on my course and also got a job in july which they said they would tell me start date after police crbs and registation etc i decided to go for a holiday all of august staying with familiy in diff citities and did not get a part time job. anyway last week i get a call from new employers they say that want me to start in 7 days time, i told them i cant but i can in two weeks. me being a noob i had not thought of finding a place to stay and now am struggling to do so.
anyway, my kind mother said she would give me £600 to help finding a place, now i am having some problems finding a place to stay, i know i cant afford my own place as agents and landlords want bond etc so i have been trying to find a house share, however, this new city is very small and the houseshares available want a 6 month contract mainly for students which i dont want to commit to also i dont like sharing (bad experience as an undergraduate had flatmates who were at it all night at a time i felt very loneyl and emotionally down so told myself to avoid houseshares unlsess neccessary). i only want a house share for a month then get my own flat.
besides house share my other option would be to stay at home and commute the 1hr 20 min train plus 30min bus ride to work then the same back so nearly 3 hrs commute, i dont really want to do this, during my university i went on placement in a diff city, i had to do a similar commute of about 4hrs a day and that hurt me, all i did was work and travel, i did not have a life and was too tired to do anything. had to be up for 5am and was back home at 6:30pm slept at 9pm. Anyway the train + bus tix with discount would be about £13 a day or £65 for week. my new job will bring in about £1500 a month after tax according to tax calculators online
last option was to consider the no bond no dss houses, from what i have heard and seen the no bond and dss houses are a tip one had a broken window and another had splinters coming out of the floors. no bond dss want a 12 month contract, and that can be very long if u are staying in a tip.
good news is that the hr department for my new employer called me and filled in my bank details on the phone, so they told when i start work on the 22 i will be paid for this moth, i calculated to be about £350 to £400.
i am also thinking about my maxed out barclays account and soon to be halifax account which ammout to £2200. to fix these staying home would be the best option as i could pay them off in 2 months, however, the travel demon. also for my new job i would need a car to make things easier i dont have a car or licence so more costs to consider long term.
a friend advised a graduate loan, but i don't want to get a loan etc, i see that if i get one now then that might lead to further loans down the loans so best avoid and try manage with what is available. only loan that is acceptable is mortage and car loan.
in an ideal world i would get my own decent place for about £400 to £500 a month, and was planning to pay £400 a month to overdraft so that it would be paid in about 6 mothns
now what would people do in this situation that makes financial sense and also wont kill the spirit? and how do i go about finding a house share that can accpet someone for a month or 2

Gumtree is a possibility. Depends where you are moving toWar does not determine who is right - only who is left.0

Have you considered a B&B? Your new company may even be able to recommend one.
You would not be tied in to anything more than a week's notice, & you can use it as a base whilst you discover what parts of town you do and don't want to live in. Costs should be about what you plan to spend pcm. I can find a b&b through an agency in London for about £125 per week.0 -
You could go for a short let (try Gumtree) - my brother and his fiancee rented out their spare room for 2 months this summer to a Swedish student.
You'll find it quite hard though to find a flat etc which is cheap enough without resorting to a house-share.
I'd concentrate *when* you decide you like your job and want to stay etc on trying to find a nice 2 bed flat-share or 3 bed house-share.
Sadly you have to *put up* with other people. Just avoid the shares which have couples! They normally state they're a *couples* share.
And you should be able to state you want to live with young professionals and not university/college students.0 -
have you tried all the sites like flatmate click or spare room? These are where I let out a room and I don't live in a particularly big city.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

there seem to be lots and lots of things you don't want to do
commuting for a fews weeks or so doesn't seem unreasonable
or getting B&B for a few weeks0 -
Flat or house-sharing or becoming a lodger are the only sensible options. Look for shares for professional, working people rather than students. Start by doing the commute while you're looking. Getting job of almost any kind in the current economic climate is a miracle but you seem to want to talk yourself out of it before you've even started. Sacrifices have to be made so I think you'd better start making some.0

I'd suggest a house share as your best option - you'll also get to meet people in your new area this way too - and you will only need to give up one day to look around a few options (ring/email around and set up a few appointments in one day) or a B&B for a week or so would be good - irng and barter the price for a week, sometimes they will discount and if you chose to go without breakfast (have some breakfast bars in your room) may even knock more off.0

Post your debt related problems on the Debt Free wanabee board and the experts there will tell you how to manage them. You are in no position to afford your own place while loaded with nearly £3000 of debts.
You cannot prioritise lifestyle considerations - aversion to sharing - when you are carrying significant credit problems. Stay in shared digs until you have paid your debts off and have saved enough for a new deposit, first months rent and admin fees for your own place (around £1100).
Download the budget planner spreadsheet on the Tools section and work out the actual full costs to live in your own place - the rent may be around £500 per month, then there's council tax, energy, water, telecoms, internet and so on, which will eat away at your disposal income.0 -
Does the company offer no relocation at all?..
Even our company offers a flat for a month or so to get the right people.0 -
Which city is it?0
