Renting from a family member and claiming housing benefits
Does anyone know if it would be ok to rent from a family member as an offical tenant but be able to claim any relevant housing benefit. I need to sell my house because I just can't afford it anymore so I will need to rent. My sister is looking to get a buy to let and I have suggested if she were to buy one in my area (she…

Do 'Home information Packs' become invalid?
I had my HIP carried out at the end of Feb 2008. I now have a buyer, but I am being asked to get the HIP redone. As far as I can tell HIP's have no expiration date so I'm not sure if I really need to get it redone or not. Any advice would be appreciated.

2nd viewing with owners this evening - what questions to ask?
Hi there, basically we're having a second viewing of a house this evening. They have had 2 offers on places they want to buy accepted so I am assuming they are keen to sell, they have also said that they will pay the stamp duty given certain conditions (which probably means paying asking price which I won't be bidding at).…

Why do you need indemnity insurance...?
Hi all, I have searched the forums and found LOADS of threads about indemnity insurance, but as I don't really know anything about it, they don't make that much sense to me... We have recently bought a house, and on the completion statement there is a figure showing for "breach of restrictive covenant indemnity". We…

Renting - Admin Fees
Hi Everyone! Last week I applied for and got accepted for renting a property through a renting agency. I was told that for the application I would have to pay £200 up front for them to do the credit checks, references etc. but so long as I passed (which i have) this would be taken from the bond meaning that I would owe an…

Hello there. I moved into a flat around 4-months ago, on a 6-month contract, renting at £415 a month. Photo con - wasting my money.
How do they make gardens look huge in schedules that are actually the size of postage stamps? Do they photoshop them or is it just a certain angle a skilled photographer uses to do this? If i see a nice house with a large garden i'm keen, we have 3 dogs so need a reasonable amount of garden space. Last night we went to…

My wife and i have recently sold our house. we have seen a property we would like to buy and renovate by adding an extension and then refurbing throughout. Our options seem to be to purchase the property by putting down only 10% and then funding the extension using our savings. We will then have a shortfall of aprox 30k to…
