Hidden Costs??

I have just exchanged contracts on a new build two bedroom apartment and am due to move in next month.

I was wondering if there is anything that I should look out for in the way of hidden costs?

Do I have to pay initial start up fees for the utility companies?
Do I have to pay to register with the local council?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Beware, B.T. will impose a connection fee & try to tie you up with a long contract for a line, I used the Post Office with no connection fee & normal rate rental & calls.
EDF, standing order, for gas & electricity are excellent & also have a discount for paperless & dual fuel bills.
No option for Water & Sewerage or Council Tax but check your Band Rate.
Insurance does not have to be taken out with Mortgage Company other firms are acceptable.

    Regards,

    N.

P.S. Might be worthwhile to change the locks.

Your service charges will probably double over the next five years or so, they are usually set artificially low in the early stages.

No you won't have to pay to register with the council, though you will have to pay council tax. If you're on your own make sure you claim the single person discount of 25%!

Are they not also low initially as things will go wrong or need replacing as time goes on?
