Erm a question about house deeds

I saw a thread on here about house deeds and it got me thinking lol
Me and OH bought this house in April 2009, well its mortgaged which of course we are payimg.
We dont have any deeds to say we own this house or anything?
Is this right? do we not have the deeds yet because quite simply we don't own it yet (till we've paid the mortgage off?)
If thats the case who has them? our solicitor?
Thank You

I think Land Registry is proof that its yours (or the banks!)
We only got our houses paperwork because the solicitor was going to destroy it, it is a good 6 inches thick and makes for an interesting read.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
You ought to have some correspondence from your solicitor re the purchase?
Your mortgage company will have the deeds. You might want to write and ask them to confirm."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Or for £4 you can get a copy of the title reg from the LR site.0

In some cases there is a pack of stuff that is mainly of historic interest but there will be papers that will be useful on a future sale - planning permissions, consents from covenant holders for extensions, damp proofing guarantees, etc.
However the proof of ownership is held electronically now and therefore you might not get any physical documents at all. As has been said you can go to the Land Registry website (the gov.uk site not the other sites that appear if you Google "Land Registry") and download copies of the registry entries showing your ownership for £4.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -

I was wondering the same thing! Our solicitor said that they have posted the deeds to us, but we haven't received them, and when we queried it, they just said that they are now obsolete anyway & were only sent out in case we'd be interested to look at them. Shame though, because we would have been interested to see them!I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0

My solicitor - who was excellent throughout the entire year it took to complete - had a junior tie up the loose ends. For some reason they posted the entire file including my long lease by normal post not recorded AND to the flat itself when they new full well I didn't live there. I came over to clean before letting and the pack was sat on my doorstep for anyone to steal: not best pleased. :mad:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Yes our deeds weren't sent recorded delivery either, and the solicitor didn't even seem to care that we haven't received them, just sort of shrugged their shoulders (if you can do that over the phone!) and said that we don't need them anyway!I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0

Maybe not, but do you want someone else to have them? Surely that is asking for identity fraud or someone to try to sell your flat/ house? Might not be successful but creates a lot of hassle for you ....Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
No, of course we don't want them ending up in someone elses hands, but what can we do about it...?Maybe not, but do you want someone else to have them?
