Valuation question
So we are have our survey and valuation done on our house on Monday, but I was wondering what would happen if the valuation is different from what we have offered? Bascially we are buying a 3 bedroom house in London for £205k, which was on offer at £220. It needs central heating installed as there is none, and some…

Estate Agent - need to vent!
Just had a voicemail from the EA confirming the appointment of our full building survey on monday and asking me to give him a call. So I called him and he tried to convince me NOT to do a full survey on the property - I asked him why and he said "you wouldn't believe the people that back out of sales after a full building…

question on flat above retail space
Hi I am hoping someone may have an answer to this... I have been renting a flat located above commercial premises (a law office). The main problem is that the person (or persons) who has an office below my bedroom gets into the office between 6:30 and 7:15 daily and is generally quite loud about it (not just walking and…

Anyone used this company or one like it?
www.move-makers.co.uk We can't sell our house. It's on the market for £360,000, but fed-up of not being able to sell. Thinking of using a company like the above, who buy your house. I know they will offer less than the asking price, but usually how much less? Also, I know this is a last resort, but apart from the price…

First Time Buyer with little or no deposit
Hi all. The girlfriend and I have decided that in the current economic climate the next 6-12mths is looking like a good time to by as prices should be starting to level out before the start back up again in 2010. (May be wrong but its the way we are thinking). The problem we have is that we have little or no deposit. I…

Housing benefit can I claim it?
I have split from my partner at last and now need to rent somewhere. I have been offered a nice house with reasonable rent but am worried about the housing benefit. I jointly own a house with my partner who is still living there with my 16 year old child. Can they deny me housing benefit because I partly own the house?

SE London house prices
Houses around here (we have a flat) keep going up in price. 2 have sold for over £600 000 in the last month (terraced houses) and I'm fed up with reading about how house prices are going down everywhere because they aren't. (Flat prices are down 10%). ie what sold for £450k or less in 2006/7 is now well over £550k. Prices…

Renting: signing the tenancy agreement & paying deposit?
My apologies if this is a silly question (we haven't rented in over 10 years...). We have exchanged contracts on selling our house (last week) and complete on 15th April. We are then renting back the same house from our buyer. We have agreed a price, paid the eye-stingingly painful application fee (£450 odd) and had all of…

Can someone do me a quick mortgage calculation?
If I have a mortgage of 66k, currently on a 10 year fixed rate of 4.98, with 8 years of the fixed to run, with the total life of the mortgage left of 13 years (or 14?), how much interest would I save if I paid off 16k of the mortgage now, leaving a mortgage of 50k? My current payments are 557 a month, I pay 560 to round it…

house buying opinions/advice
Hello, I'm just hoping to get your opinions/advice. Basically we are first time buyers, with our finances in place and we're renting at the moment so we'd be ready to move whenever we want. We have found a property that is on the market at £145k. It had apparently been reduced from £160k (although I never saw it on the…

How long for searches & legal work?
Just wondered how long searches and legal work could take? I know it's not an exact science and is dependant on everyone doing their bit, but assuming both sets of solicitors are on the ball how long could everything take? In just over three weeks we've found potential houses, viewed them, had an offer accepted on one and…

Anyone dealt with Persimmons North East before?
We are interested in this Persimmons development, but the information we've been given are contradictive between two sales women. When we first visited the sales office the lady A told us that they have 3 beds (plot 68) house released and she would find out the price for us on Monday. My hubby asked her about the 4 beds in…

Redc
Their FAQ state that a binding contract is formed when the property is sold at auction, and the buyer can't back out. Surely this must bind the seller as well. I thought that contract terms that bind one party but not another were unfair terms under contract law. http://www.auctiontoday.co.uk/faqs.php#q11
