HIP- What do i do with it?
Hiya, i received my hip pack today but what am i supposed to do with it? I've paid nearly £400 for a book ive no idea what to do with. No one that had been to view our house has mentioned it, and no one is going to sit there for 10 minutes looking through it at a viewing. Seems just a waste of paper to me

Tenant doesn't report problems...
... with the result that they become worse. Is there any way of holding a tenant to account for, e.g. an unreported pipe leak which has eventually cost much more to rectify than it would have done if reported promptly? I don't consider it fair to tenants to be continually 'inspecting'. I regard that as intrusive and it…

Buying a house with cracks in the wall
I'm a first time buyer and I've been to my second viewing of a property I'm particularly interested in. Getting straight to the point, the house sits above 3 garages (one of which belongs to the property), I've noticed that in the two outer garages there is a 1mm to 2mm crack which runs top to bottom straight through the…

What permission is needed for an extension?
I may be jumping the gun here but was hoping for a bit of info if possible A neighbour is ready to build on the area where his garage was. I have no problems with a similar size garage being built but if any kind of bigger extension were there it would definately block out a lot of light. I suppose i want to know if he…

Unfair 'administration' fee?
I am a student in Edinburgh staying in a flat of five. We renewed our 12 month lease for next year today. However, we have had to pay an 'administration fee' of 30 pounds per tenant (ie 150 pounds). As we are existing tenants this does not strike me as being fair since it doesn't in any way reflect the amount of…

when does building a new house become renovation?
Scenario, A terrace house where you want to knock down the house and build from scratch (to avoid VAT) If you connect with the next door house as it was before, is it technically a "new build"? In the event you did not want to connect and you left 2 butress' (one front and one rear) I suppose you would be liable if any…

Joint ownership, what happens when one half dies?
I'm going to be morbid and pessimistic here, but hear me out. I am going to get married in a month's time. My wife to be is a joint owner of a flat along with her father. This was done so she could get a mortgage on the flat at a very high income multiple. Both her and her father's name are on both the deeds and on the…
