No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries October 2015
And here we go again for another month! As usual this initial post has been shamelessly copied from the many previous months. A big thank you to Babafette for starting us off last month. Welcome all newbies and regulars to this very friendly and chatty thread where we give lots of lovely tips on how to use up your stash…

Storing make-up and brushes
I currently have a large box that all my make-up / perfume etc is all thrown in. We are doing up the house and i'm getting a 'dressing table' in the form of a solid oak floating shelf so looking for some nice ways to store / display my make up on the shelf. Any ideas? I use bare minerals so mostly in pots with a set of…

Compulsive liar - how best to respond?
Someone I know is a shocking liar. Sometimes the stories she tells are huge, like deaths, terminal illness in herself or another etc (illness seems to come into it a lot) and sometimes just little seemingly insignificant things. Like saying she saw someone in town who told her this or that when I know for a fact she didn't…

Frozen food best before dates?
If you buy something that is refrigerated, and it says it can be frozen, how long do you have to use it? I assume it isn't the best before date on the pack, as that's the date if it's being refrigerated. So I'm confused.

Poor Sleep Pattern
Hi, As of late I've been getting less and less sleep, with early starts for work and late nights. One thing that is concerning me is that I seem to wakeup several times in the night for no apparent reason so my sleep is never complete cycles. I know I have developed a few bad habits that are going to be nipped in the bud…

Hi, I recently had back an estimate for some dental work - two extractions - (old crowns that need to come out- they are currently holding a bridge - one of the roots has snapped in half, bridge held on precariously on one tooth now. For fitting two implants and somewhere a false tooth- not quite sure if another bridge on…

Hi has anyone had a dry socket after a tooth extraction tell me how long before it heals. Dentist said it would be better out so I had it…

Organ Donation
I really don't want to upset/offend anybody but was after some alternative viewpoints. Many people outside (or even inside!) Wales may not realise that the way Organ Donation in Wales is changing on 1st December. So unless you expressly register that you do not want to be an organ donor after death then deemed consent will…

Is it okay to go to a different dentist after having dental surgery done?
I am not registered to any dentist, so i'm just wondering if this would be fine to do? I went to a dentist a couple days ago to get fillings done, but it all felt a bit rushed and i wasn't entirely content with the advice/after care. I know i'm not registered so maybe that makes a difference to them, but the dental surgeon…

Orthodontics for adults hopefully free on the NHS - help please
When I was 16 I was hit in the mouth playing hockey. At the time it pushed a couple of teeth at the top of my mouth back on the right hand side a little bit. It looked minor with only a single tooth out of place. I never saw a dentist at the time due to the minor nature of it. As I have grown older the tooth has become…

MRI Scan? Where to go and not pay the Earth.
I know there was a thread here in 2007 / 9 but I am now in the market for an MRI scan and someone to read the scan and tell me what's happening to my medial tendon on my L knee as I am even struggling to climb the stair case. Getting fed up and wanted a better explanation than my local A and E (now in Special Measures).…

Chronic illness
I've just recently been diagnosed with a chronic long term illness and am in the slow process of having a treatment plan put in place to try to manage some of the symptoms which are primarily intense pain and extreme exhaustion. When I got the diagnosis we told family members and also sent them a link to the NHS website…

Fixed braces - practical advice
Hi, Earlier this year I finally went to the dentist after 20 years of avoiding it. I needed a small filling and a crown fitted and decided to have fixed braces to correct my wonky teeth. Anyway I am due to have the braces fitted on Friday and so would really like any advice on the practical side of wearing braces - such as…

philips razor replacement head
The philips replacement head for my razor (PT730) is the HQ8 which costs around £30. A brand new razor is not much more. However I've seen replacement blades on ebay for around £8 (set of 3). I strongly suspect they are not genuine philips. Philips themselves don't sell the blades separately - only as a single HQ8 Head.…

Irregular Periods
Hello, quite a bit of info in this so please do not read if you are squeamish. Just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced periods every 2 weeks and lasting for 10-14 days. I get about 5 days of pink/brown discharge, 5-7 days of actual blood, and a few days after of discharge as above. I've been to the doctors and she…

footner and dry, itchy feet
Hi, just looking for some feedback from people who have used footner exfoliating socks. Myself and my partner used these a few months ago and were pleased with the results - huge amount of peeling over a couple of weeks and left with much smoother feet (apologies if TMI). But since then we have both been left with very…
