put in some courgette and melon seed, have I wasted my time?
After the last couple of weeks of wind/rain/sun my courgette and melon plants have taken a battering. Popped a few more seeds in the prop today but am now wondering if I may have wasted my time as it may be a bit late on. They are all patio/early varieties. What do you think guys?

Help! Orchid advice needed please
My orchid has grown babies along its old flower stems, and now these baby orchids are growing flower stems! What do I do? Do I leave them on the mother plant, or cut them off and repot (how and into what?). I've no idea what type of orchid it is as it was a gift, but it is small and has small mottled flowers. (It's in a…

Laying turf - any advice?
We're hoping to lay turf today! We have a fairly small area (about 25msq) which we used to let the chickens free range in, and so of course they have rendered it a patch of mud! They've also poo'd on it, and given it a good fertilise! We've spent the last week breaking up the soil with a fork, then tilling it with an…

Removing rust from hanging basket chains?
Hi, I have some hanging baskets I want to reuse but the chains are really rusty. The baskets are in good condition and I could replace the chain but I was hoping I could soak them in something to spruce them up. I would be grateful of any suggestions, thanks :D

Curing a water logged garden - opinions??
It is making awful squelching sounds and more or less has puddles in it, so this is what i'm going to do: Get a auger, and make several holes in the ground about 3 feet apart, all over the water logged area (which is my entire back garden) holes will be around 1.5 to 3 feet deep i can't decide yet. Opinions on depth?? Then…

I got basil!
Out of the roughly 150 seeds I put in, there are now 3 little tiny basil plants peeping through  We've drilled holes in the wheelbarrow and filled with compost. I planted a row of strawberries down each side and a row of basil in the middle thinking it would look pretty. 5 flowers on the strawberries so nom nom, how…

Replacing flower beds with grass - how?!
I have today taken the plunge and started digging my overgrown flower beds - they were full of weeds and grass and we've never been gardeners so they looked pretty grim. I have started to dig out the side and bottom beds (leaving the one between the patio and the rest of the garden). I have dug the majority of the visible…

More bay tree troubles.
My small bay in a pot appeared to have survived the winter with some die back which I pruned off. It's now shooting from the bottom but appears to have more die back going on with the existing top shoots. I noticed yesterday that on the bottom of the main stem but spreading upwards is white patches of gunk which is very…
