Growing Herbs
I use fresh herbs a lot in cooking and end up spending a fortune. I sometimes buy the herbs in pots but they always seem to wilt after a couple of days. Does anyone have advice on growing them at home? I'd like to be a bit more self sufficient!

Wild about your garden
Great to see a good gardening programme back on mainstream TV. The new BBC programme wild about your garden is excellent and has loads of useful info about getting wildlife, in particular, back into your garden.... and as we all know wildlife = natural pest control, saving loads on bug sprays and alike.

maidenhair fern
Very much out of fashion these days, but a friend of mine would like one. From what I can gather it's the one that is sort of feathery and looks as much like a grass as anything. It's one of the adiantum (sp?) family, I think, and is also known sometimes as the asparagus fern. I've scoured the web and cannot find the one…

Make a greenhouse out of plastic bottles
Last year someone I know made a greenhouse out of the large square bottles in which some brands of bottled water is sold. This year, on the school allotment, they used 2 litre soft-drinks bottles. You need around 1500 so you'd have to ask family and friends to collect them for you (unless you had a serious addiction!). The…

Help choosing Real Christmas tree
Hi, We are thinking of planting a Christmas tree in the front garden but don't know where to start. Are there any varieties that stay fairly short (below 10ft)? Or do they all grow pretty tall? We can plant it up to 15ft away from our property but would prefer it closer - I have no idea about the root system of a spruce…
