Always try and buy bird seed in bulk sacks if you can - as there will be NO Vat to pay - what ever the rate is! VAT gets added when it is broken down into small packs. I get mine in 20kg sacks. Most good garden centres do a good range of birdcare - and yes it does normally come cheep !!!0

I get a robin seed mix from "The Bird Table" online and they are eating me out of house & home !
I have tried various VERY cheap feeds in the past just to find that the birds don't go anywhere near it ! So pound for pound ends up more expensive.
But then maybe I just have posh birds that will only turn their beaks up at cheap food;)0 -
I buy 2 kilo bags from Wilkinsons. They are £1.45 at the moment and have Bill Oddy's picture on the front. It's just called Wild Bird Food seed. Unless you can pick up the seed from a supplier I imagine the postage will make it expensive. Our garden is always full of birds. I use the above bird seed of which a medium size hanger will disappear in half a day, nyger seeds separately - this brings in lots of the more attractive birds, e.g. goldfinch, greenfinch etc.Peanuts and sunflower seeds in a separate nets. Most of all the birds seem to like fat balls which we are getting for 49p for six at a shop called Quality Save. The same balls are over £1 at all the supermarkets just for four. I'll go have a look at Birdfood, see what they sell.
I worry about the blackbirds because they feed on the ground usually, same as robins but sometimes they get what drops from the big feeders unless the pidgeons get there first. Sorry to go on so much.0 -
I live in Leeds and we have Paws for Thought.
I get mine from there, seems decent quality, seed and peanuts, but you do get what you pay for.0 -
Have you tried RSPB?

I read somewhere that you should avoid hanging those nuts in nets as they can damage the birds feet or they can get tangled in them.
I get my bird food from CJ Wildbird Foods. Not the cheapest but good quality and bulk bags available.0 -
