Just been quoted for a Solar Panels system - does this sound ok/right
We live in an old ex local authority house that has been extended to include an extra lounge, bedroom and bathroom (granny annex). We have electric heaters that we move around the house as we have no formal heating apart from a wood burner in the kitchen diner. We have no gas here. Most properties are on oil. We are able…

Didn't receive the Export Tariff
Hi, I have just received the cheque from BG for the feed in tariff but noticed that BG have forgotten to add the export tariff to the payment ... easy to miss but £25.00 is £25.00. People check you payments!

Solar South Facing - No!
You do not need a south facing roof for solar panels, Marcel. In my area, near Oxford, solar radiation figures show that on a 30deg roof, the potential power generation facing due east or west is just under 15% lower than that for due south. That still makes it a good investment.

Sandwich packaging - are they recyclable?
Does anybody happen to know whether sandwich packaging can actually be recycled? I am talking about packaging for sandwiches bought in supermarkets with cardboard on the surface and a layer of plastic underneath. The packaging has the following information about disposal: Carton - Card, widely recycled (no mention about…

Solar Panels Installed But Only £3 Cheaper Electric Bill!
Hello There, I live in a rented council bungalow & in June I had a roof full of solar panels fitted for free because the council are renting out my roof space to the solar panel company who get the profits from the extra electricity that goes back to the grid They put them up all crooked so they had to come back to re fit…

Solar Installers Ltd warning
Anyone thinking of getting solar panels should avoid a man called Richard Elliot of Solar Installers and Renewable Energies. He is a con man. I paid a £2000 deposit in July with a commencement date of 29th July and have heard nothing from him since. All phone calls and emails go unanswered. I feel like a complete idiot and…

How do you choose to dry clothes?
The reason I'm asking is because the government is to remove certain building regulations. Whilst some of these are sensible being covered by other regulations I'm not sure about all of them. Take this one for example Surely one of the more prolific waste of energy is the tendency for people to use electric tumble driers…

Simple solar circuit
Hi there. I don't know if this belongs on the techie thread, but it seems to me that the expertise is on here. I work in Year 6 of a primary school, and I'd like to have a small backlit corridor display (basically a few strips of movie film in a lightbox). Not wanting to burn through batteries, I'd like it to be powered by…

Shredded Paper can no longer be placed in Recycle bin.
Our local authority ( Northumberland Country Council) have just collected our green recycle bin and they have placed a sticker on all bins in our street with a new list of what and what not to place in recycle bin. On the do not list is Shredded Paper, yet on the do list is paper and cardboard. so it seems that we can add…

Anyone heard about Midnight Sun solar capture?
We had 3kw worth of panels installed earlier this year. We seem to be generating a lot of extra electricity, I thought I would need more for my aquarium, but may have been mistaken. We have been wondering about how we could maybe store the excess instead of exporting to the grid, for later use. This week, a letter from our…

EON FIT Team - Email Problem
If this is in the wrong place please redirect me. My payment date was 9th August, as I was on holiday I sent through the reading on 4th. Got the requisite acknowledgement email, went away. Tomorrow is day 10 (the email says payment 5 - 10 days) so I phoned to check how much was coming. They have 'email problems' and have…

Green asthmatics can recycle
I just found this via an email link from Tescos: Recycle your inhalers There isn't one near my house but there is one near my work, I know it's hardly going to change the world quickly, but even 10 a year between us is better than not recycling them.

Recycling Receipts/cashpoint receipts
Is it safe to do this? I don't own a shredder nor the will to individually scissor up the drawer full of receipts I have. I have a ton of them, mainly because i use the post office to get money and each interaction comes with a receipt. But some portion of the number is blocked out. Are there any alternatives?
