Free Range/Ethical frugal eating
What's everyone's thoughts on free range chicken and british (not danish) pork/ham/bacon. Also sausages - do people check the meat content is over 95%? I'm genuinely interested as I enjoy cooking and whilst being frivolous I do think about what I eat and I care if an animal is being slaughtered for food that it is ethical.…

cavity wall insulation are they desperate for the money now?
I've been wanting cavity wall insulation but it could never be done because they would need to use scaffolding to get on top of my garage roof to drill holes. No one was prepared to pay extra so it was never done. I kept getting people knocking at the door asking if I wanted cavity wall insulation and I always said yes,…

Energy efficient electric kettle
I heard there is supposed to be a kettle on the market that keeps the water hot for 30 minutes or an hour after it has boiled. It is supposed to cost very little to run, is cordless and the minimum water level is quite low on it (you don't have to boil more than you need). Does anyone know what make or model the kettle is…

Changing the use of solar panels?
This is a completely new area for me so I'll try and be brief! A house we are looking at has a solar heated swimming pool. We are considering filling in the pool, so the question would be the feasibility of using the panels (owned by the owner, 7 of them, 5 yrs old, situated on a garage roof) for home use? (The house…

Preparing Dandelions for Eating
Sorry if wrong forum but does anyone know how to prepare dandelions (preferably without blanching as it seems a bit long winded) for eating - and so they don't taste bitter (I've heard a lot about the bitterness). I'd preferably like preparation regarding leaves after the flower has sprouted as I have a load in my garden…
