What can I do with old felt tips and lids?
Ive been sorting through my kids box of felt tips today, and have lots of dried up pens and odd lids. They are well beyond a drop of water to revive them! Im not sure which kind of plastic they are, so unable to put in the recycling. Does anyone have any interesting and fun things we can make with them instead of just…

My Recent PV Install.
Thought I would share with you my recent Solar pv install, system size 3.70kw comprising of 8 Schuco 185w panels on the South facing roof and 12 on the West, as you can see by my picture I have some shading issue's with the Monkey puzzle tree and so every panel has it's own micro inverter so when one goes in the shade the…

Solar Heating a 12' pool....
My daughter has a round 12' pool which we would like to warm up a little. I've seen a couple of ideas such as Solar Pods & also the black matting which water is pumped through. Has anyone experience of either of these? We realise it won't make the pool really warm (and it would need to be VERY warm for me to go anywhere…

Too much power
I understand that it is more efficient to use all the power generated rather than loose it to the grid and then run things like washing macchines later on when energy production is at a low and will be charged for the usage. So at peak times when say a 4kw system could be producing 3.5 kw or more what happens to the mains…

PV Panels on wsw facing roof
Having watched my £10500 worth of shares going up and down the last few years and getting poor returns on other investments( mainly ISAs) I am considering cashing in my shares and going for solar power. My roof is WSW but leaning more to west then SW. The roof is at 30deg and is quite large so will accomadate a lot of…

Biomass Boiler, incentives & alternatives
I'm considering installing a biomass boiler - can you guys help me with the moneysaving and other logic to decide if it's my best option, please? I'm off the gas grid and have a 50 year old range solid fuel stove that's falling apart. All the controls are jammed, the grate needs replaced, it's no good for cooking any more,…

Green, Ethical & Warm Moneysaving .... Without News International
Hi All Well, for quite a while we haven't been purchasing daily newspapers, partially due to being a little green, partially as a moneysaving measure, but mostly because there is not much worth reading in most daily papers anyway and I don't agree with paying just to read adverts. The regular Sunday broadsheet provokes the…

Ridgeblade domestic roof wind turbine
This product is getting some press at the moment: http://www.ridgeblade.com/ I wish I could get excited about it, but it's not available yet, and even the manufacturers are not prepared to share any data. How about an MSE sweepstake to estimate the typical power output? If it's more than 60W I'd be (pleasantly) surprised.…

disposing of non-working laser printers?
hi Any advice please? I have 2 old Konica Minolta large laser printers that no longer work and are taking up space at home. Have put them on ebay as spares/repairs and also on freecycle - but no takers at all! Where is the best place to get rid of them? Didn't want to take them to the tip as they may be useful for someone…

Seeking green/ethical investments advice
Hi all Just wanted to see if I can get some tips & advice on investing some money into green or ethical savings. I recently had an appointment with Nationwide who were keen on getting me to put my cash into capital bonds and shares but I dont like the idea of my money being used on things I have no idea about. I have used…

House Insurance and Solar Panels
Can anyone help update the following list and / or give suggestions for home insurers that offer cover for solar panels, and whether this is in the same way as, for example a TV aerial, i.e. the panels itself are covered and also damage to other property caused by the panels. AXA - no mention Co-op - covers accidental…
