Use by date still on shelf?
Hi there I was in a large supermarket and they had a product on the shelf where the use by date was yesterday. I took a picture and emailed them. They’ve just emailed me back saying sorry and the manager has now been made aware. Isn’t this a criminal offence to sell food past the use by date? Could I take this further? I’m…

Tesco to pull the plug its first Jack's store
Tesco's masterplan to take on Aldi and Lidl seems to have been the damp squib many predicted. The Telegraph reports that its Rawtenstall branch is already to be axed, though it still plans to open a further three Jack's this year. The phrase 'throwing good money after bad' springs to mind...

Sainsburys now joined the club and have stopped plastic bags for online shops
Sainsburys have joined Asda and Tesco by not offering plastic bags for home deliveries now. I have bought a garden trolley so I just put all my shopping in it and then offload from there but could be of interest to some who use Sainsburys for their weekly shops. The tesco drivers are really not happy about how long…

Morrisons pork shoulder price?
Yesterday I went to Morrisons butchery counter to buy a joint of pork. There were no shoulder joints on display, so I asked the butcher for a big one (feeding hordes). He brought out a whole shoulder, which was ideal. I didn't really notice at the time but when I unwrapped it today I saw it was £2.50/kg, so just over £8…

Shopping for wine in Germany
We have just come back from a nice trip to Austria and Germany. Now, if I was going to advise people on where to shop for wine in a German supermarket, you may automatically think Lidl, Aldi or maybe Netto. However, we grabbed 8 bottles of an amazing Italian wine for E3.99 each (around £3.56) from a Penny store. For anyone…

Milk Prices: have I missed something?
When I went to buy my usual milk this week (Arla BOB) it had gone up from £1.20 a carton to £1.60. That's a 33.3% increase! I checked on mysupermarket and the price for the BOB milk seems much the same everywhere, not counting offers. Is this a case of a price rise just 'because they can' or has something happened to…
