Renewing energy contract before contract end date
HiThis seems like a simple question, but I've not been able to find an answer anywhere! Hoping for some help. I am on a fixed duel fuel Octopus contract which is due to expire in late April this year. There's no early exit fees, and I don't especially want to change supplier. Anyone know if it's possible to renew my fixed…

Is my Energy Bill too high?
Hi, I recently moved into a one bedroom property with my partner. In our first month, December, we managed to rack up an electricity bill of over £200 with a 16p per kwh tariff. Now it is an electricity only flat and we did have the heating on semi regularly but even so the bill seemed absurd. As soon as we saw the bill we…

Estimating costs
I am looking to move into a one bed flat with gas heating. Assuming combi boiler. Currently in a 3 bed semi I pay £770 a year (£50pm April-September, £70 October - March) into an account for when the bill arrives, this meets all quarterly bills in full easily. Fairly modern combi boiler. We (two) are careful around use but…

Stuck with pre payment meter
My son has moved into a flat where the previous tenant had a Utilita prepayment meter. He wants to change supplier and have a normal tariff paying direct debit but has been told by other providers that utilita would have to install a smart meter first. Utilita say there's a shortage of meters and they don't know when…

Tried to cancel switch with Symbio and now issues with joining another provider
Hi. First time poster here. I recently began a switch with Symbio, but changed my mind during the cooling off period and requested a cancellation. This they claimed to do. However, I have since had ongoing issues trying to sign up with a new provider, Neon Reef. Each time Neo Reef has begun the new switch, the registration…

Replacement meter wiring issues
Back in 2019 we were with Npower and we had a faulty meter, blank screen on digital meter. In our large house there were 2 meters both E7, one for night storage and overnight hot water, the other for all other use. We had many missed appointments and one engineer who didn’t have a suitable replacement meter. Then another…

Utilities Obscene Rises
We have our own oil, a huge amount of green energy now, wind farms everywhere and plans for another Nuclear power plant, our energy bills should be coming down not going up, why are we letting these thieves rip us off? We need an investigation into why we have the dearest utilities in Europe?

I've received the shock of my life! 9 months after switching from BG to Octopus (thank you Martin) I have received a final bill from BG saying I owe more than £6K!! I've been in contact with British Gas, and they've said that I gave an incorrect reading back in 2018 .I've argued that I've had meter readers in my house…

Has your smart meter changed the way you use energy?
Last week we asked MSE’s Facebook followers how much they pay attention to the energy use information their smart meters put at their fingertips (if they have an in-home display!) One user told us they “realised that underfloor heating used a humongous amount of power” so now they don't switch it on so much, and another…

155kwh per day for gas. Is that normal?
Hi, I have just recently started taking over the household expenses from my mother. I'm very unfamiliar with energy bills as this I'd the first time I've ever dealt with them. On our energy bill it said we use 155kwh/per day for gas on average. Is that normal for a 3 bedroom house with 4 people. We have a gas boiler. Our…

Beyond Ombudsman
I have a 'legal' query and don't know where else to go to ask... so if you don't mind me asking, bear with me...We had a complaint from a year ago (March 26th 2020) about our Utility/Energy supplier (Green Star Energy, now owned by Shell Energy as of 26/11/19). We took it up with the Energy Ombudsman, who drafted a…

Eon change meter
Eon have sent me a letter saying they have a legal right to change the meter. Odd since it was changed less than 2 years ago and I have previously told them I dont want a smart meter. Plus am shielding. Am I obliged to let them do this now.? I was thinking of switching. Still telling them no to smart meter.

Comparing tariffs
Apologies if this has been covered by why doesn't the amount they say you save ever turn out to be correct? I am with Octopus and they give me the price per kWh and the daily standing charge. I assume most companies do this so why isnt this criteria used for comparison instead?
