Changing suppliers and smart meters
As a frequent mover of my energy supplier, I have just completed the move from British Gas (fixed deal) to a smaller company called Avro. In the last year I have had a smart meter fitted by British Gas, which the smaller company doesnt recognise at all. I now have to go back to submitting manual readings to Avro, which is…

Electricity handy rule of thumb
I was just calculating what an ionizer was costing to run and noticed a handy rule: If your electricity cost 11.416 pence per unit, then each watt of power will cost £1.00 per year to run continuously. Am I right in thinking 11p is around the best single rate tariff price at present? So keeping the 120-watt heated towel…

Energy switch! How can I avoid DOUBLE monthly charge?
I want to switch energy suppliers but I am concerned that due to the variable time it can take to switch - what is the best way to avoid paying both my old suppliers monthly direct debit & ALSO the new supplier in the month that I choose to switch. I realise that there is a 14 day cooling off period with the new supplier,…

Moving to a house with Prepayment meters, who changes to credit meters for free?
Hi all I am moving into my first home on Tuesday. I just found out on Sunday that the meters installed in the house are prepayments meters which is supposedly the more expensive way to pay for Gas and Electric. I would like to change to credit meters but I hear some companies charge and others don't. I am finding the…

SSE - only unit rate is fixed?
The standing charge on their 2 year fixed dual fuel tariff is 14.8p per day. That's quite impressive compared to BG, npower and EDF. When I asked via web chat though I was told that is not fixed, only the unit rates and that it can vary by customer !?! I couldn't spot anything in the T&C for the tariff. I would assume that…

Concerned: Average gas units per day very high? Single/1 bed flat
My supplier is SSE (Southern Electric), my use is apparently (according to meter readings) on average 3.75 units (kWh) per day for a 1 bed flat, in a block of flats. TL;DR: Bills are very high, need help knowing what to do next as waste reduction is already in place, as best it can be. Single occupant, no other occupants.…

Electricity meter changed now costs rocketed
I have a strange, non standard meter which has a day and night tariff but is not economy 7. Only my storage heaters are on the night meter and nothing else is connected to it (I only just found this out!). The clock on my meter broke recently making my heaters stop working. My supplier came out and removed the clock so I…

Which Suppliers Allow Single Rate Elec Tariffs on Dual Reading (Economy 7) Meter
In particular do SCOTTISH POWER support this? I live in a leasehold ex-Local-Authority block, where it's a right pain-in-the-!!! to get my economy 7 electricity meter changed. I've tried and failed twice - work needs prior approval from freeholder/service company and access to communal boxes etc. Also needs time off work,…

Using more energy
Hi I currently have a variable fixed energy deal that is nearing the end of its term. On the energy savings club most of the good deals are fixed. I know that the savings you get are based on the previous years energy readings but my question is what if you use more energy than those supplied readings. Will your DD…

Should I switch energy providers when I've had an unusual year of use?
Hi all This last 12 months has been the first year of me essentially living alone in my house that I've owned for 10 years. However, for 5 months of this last year (August - December 2016), I was barely living at my house and I was only staying there for 1 or 2 nights a week over this period. As such, during this time the…
