How do you Switch to a supplier with automatic meter reading (smart ?)
Can forumites recommend a supplier I can switch to now who will replace my ancient gas and/or electricity meter with one they can read themselves without me needing to or them asking to come into my property ? Answers only from direct recent switchers who have done the same, recommending tariff.

Economy 10 - who offers the tariffs
Good evening all!!! I am really hoping someone can offer some advice. We live in a 3 bed terraced house and have storage heaters along with Economy 10 tariff (at present with Eon). Does anyone else offer the tariff? We are in East Anglia. I have looked on EDFs website and found their tariff which says for the last quarter,…

When to start switching?
Hi, We are locked into Eon's tariff until 31st October and then it really goes up. I found new tariffs that will be much cheaper, but unsure of when to start switching to avoid paying that exit fee? Do I have to actually press the button on 1st November or can I do it now as it will take couple of weeks anyway? Thanks

Cheaper alternatives to E7 starage heaters?
Hi I live in a somewhat drafty 1 bedroomed flat (thanks to a huge bay window and no double glazing). I am currently on benefits and have a pre payment meter for my electricity. The flat is electric only. Anyway I put my heating on the other day (2 storage heaters) and my word, it swallowed up all my credit so quickly).…

EON to EDF - Extreme planning need help
Hi I've been holding off changing from my current supplier EON (Age UK) quarterly scheme to another provider, as I wanted to see who would come out cheapest after the price hikes. Now it seems like it a level field I've done a price comparison and most seem to suggest a saving via EDF Fix 2012 saving around £149. I really…

Storeage heaters question. Turn one on to max or both on half-way?
My first foray onto this board so be nice! As the title implies I have 2 storage heaters to heat a 2 bed house (one in the kitchen, one in the living room - both downstairs which is open-plan) The kitchen heater is 2ft 6in wide, living room one is 3ft 4in. (Does this mean the kitchen one takes less electricity to heat?).…

12% interest??????
I'm not sure if I am being stupid but my gas and energy supplier refund 1 months worth of direct debit every year. As I always overpay i have my overpayments back once a year too but they don't take into account the direct debit rebate. The other question too is if I pay an extra £100 a month each on my gas and electric…

Storage Heaters but no E7 Supply - questions!
Hi, First ever MSE post and would be grateful for advice. I've just moved into a flat which is all electric and has 2 storage heaters (living room and bedroom). The previous tenant had had a key meter put in by British Gas, which is due to be changed back to a billing meter on Saturday. I decided to try out the storage…

EON vs EDF
Afternoon everyone, Looking for advice, currently on E.ON SaveOnline 4 product with a yearly spend of approx £843 for dual. Done a price check and I can save money if I joined the following EDF product 'Fix for 2012' I would save approximately £61.22 if I moved. Just checked EON terms and conditions, I will have to pay £30…

British Gas and EnergySmart: yes or no?
We're on BG's Websaver 11 (dual fuel) with EnergyExtra. I just gave them an on-line meter reading and noticed an option on their website to sign up to their EnergySmart (apparently free) facility. It is unclear from the website exactly how you save money with EnergySmart (we already pay monthly on-line with paperless…

Having to pay to get a standard meter
My wife and I moved into our house four years ago and when we did we noticed that the house had key meters for both the gas and electricity. At the time we told our energy provider (npower ) that we were moving. Long story short, they royally messed up everything and after a year of drawn out arguments I told them to…

What does the meter reading mean?
I wonder if anyone can help? I work in a smallish office where our electricity usage is measured by an Elster A1100 meter. The reading is being interpreted differently by our current supplier (Eon) than it was by our previous supplier (British Gas). The meter has an LCD display and shows 6 digits (e.g. 012345), British Gas…

Condensing boiler costs
Hi, I know this sounds like a slightly silly question but I'm hoping someone might have an insight into how our heating system works! We started in a property with an old CH boiler and immersion, then moved to a property with a combi boiler (hated it!) and I understood how they worked. Now we've moved into a property with…

Gas or electric to heat water
I have a pretty old Baxi boiler, probably 25 years old and it heats my radiators and hot water on an old Danfoss timer. It's set to come on at 5am and off at 7am, then on again at 5pm and off at 10pm. The timer has a switch for hot water and one for heating, so you can turn one or both on or off. The tank in the airing…

help with boiler repair costs?
Hiya I've never posted on here before so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I just wanted some quick advice for my mum. Her boiler has decided to pack up and she has been quoted thousands to fix it, its only 4yrs old and there is no way she can afford it. She started a full time job a few months ago after being on…

heating question
I'm a student with 2 flatmates and we're always in and out of the flat at odd times and are hardly ever home at the same time. Is it cheaper to run the gas heating at regular times or just have each person using their own electric heating as an when they are around to benefit from it? I pay all the bills and I am in…
