When to start switching?
Hi,
We are locked into Eon's tariff until 31st October and then it really goes up.
I found new tariffs that will be much cheaper, but unsure of when to start switching to avoid paying that exit fee?
Do I have to actually press the button on 1st November or can I do it now as it will take couple of weeks anyway?
Thanks

You can start now, as a new supplier would have a "cooling off" period for their new customers anyway, so would be unlikely to do anything before that has passed. Once you have completed your E.On tariff, all discounts etc. within it will apply regardless of what happens. You will go onto their expensive standard tariff, which won't be for too long if you're switching.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks,
I will do it today then.
Eon would let us switch to another tariff, which is only £70 more expensive then the one we are moving to, so if I had to pay £30 exit fee and a month worth of expensive supply that would nearly delete all the savings.. So we would be better off to just make Eon change to different tariff on 1st November as supposedly they will change us immediately.0 -
Switching takes 4-5 weeks, so if you do it today you won't be on supply with your new provider before 21/11 at the earliest now.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi Any
I'm assuming you're currently on Saveonline 3 as this finishes at the end of the month.
After this and unless you tell us otherwise, you'll automatically be switched to our standard online tariff, EnergyOnline.
EnergyOnline has no cancellation fee if you change supplier. However, just a quick heads up; we don't give discount on final bills when changing supplier.
This, though, doesn't apply to completed contracts. Therefore, as victor2 says, you'll receive all the discounts applicable to Saveonline 3 even if part of this falls within the final bill. The only discounts you'll miss out on are from the end of Saveonline 3 to the date the supply switches over.
Hope this is of interest Any. Let me know if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
