just had a very interesting phone conversation with NPOWER. I recieved my sept bill and was not happy to find that although I was £145 in credit they were going to increase my Direct Debit by £14 per month showing the estimated increase in prices and useage history. I decided to switch to Southern Electric as the unit…

Huge Bills
Hello, My partner and I moved into our 2 bed house in July. We were paying £35 per month for electricity and was on a gas meter - topping up the card by approx £20 per month as we had a back boiler. We recently had an electricity meter reading and they are now changing our direct debit to £66 per month. We had a new boiler…

Advice/Input needed - Scottish Power: Pay as you go
Hi Everyone, I've recently purchased and moved into my first house in the last quarter of 2010 and I need some advice or feedback from the good forumites here. When asked before the purchase went through, the previous owner had told me that the gas and electric was metered, but failed to mention anything about the card and…

Ditch the kettle?
I made (what I think is) an amazing discovery this morning - bear with me on this one... Last night I made a cafetiere (sp?) of coffee but then got called away and by the time I got back to it, it was stone-cold. I didn't want to waste it so I left it so that I could have it for my breakfast this morning. I put the…

Can a supplier still put its prices up if you tell them that you are leaving them?
In Mid November I informed Evo that I wanted to become one of their customers as British Gas had just announced a price rise. This process was completed on December 30th and BG has sent me a final bill which shows a higher tariff from December 10th. Now I always thought that if you changed suppliers your original supplier…

Any good deals for electricity only
My flat doesn't have any gas connected to it. My heating and water comes from the heat source pump. I am currently with E-on and on the Track and Save 3 plan which expires on 1st Feb. For your info, my bill from 11th Oct - 4th Jan used 1030kWh (602 day and 428 night) and cost £110.43. A lot of these good deals are for dual…

A little help please. Who knows how to read a gas meter?
Hi all, I'm sure that I've been ripped off by Southern for my gas however, I cannot prove this because I don't know what the numbers on the meter mean and also, the people in their call centre are not helping me. I have a digital prepayment meter and I'm supposed to be on Ebico's Equigas at 3.5 per KWh.. There is a screen…

Npower is playing dirty – check your Bill
I received a benign looking letter from Npower before Christmas with the usual sales spiel which I nearly consigned to the bin. As I folded it to tear it in half, I spotted there was some small-print on the back which caught my attention. Npower has secretly increased its standing charges from £57.76 a year (billed £14.44…

EON bill problem
Hi, we have been contacted by EON saying we owe them over £400. We have always paid our monthly direct debit on time for the amount set by EON. In fact in the past EON reviewed our account several times and reduced the monthly costs off their own back. We also have a coal fire so we expected our EON bills to be fairly low…

British Gas Homecare 200
I signed up for the above hoping to have cover for my radiators which I think I am in need of now! A couple of them do not heat up properly and there's a range of knocking noises heard once the heating starts up. Will my homecare plan allow for a call out to sort the issues I have with my radiators(and/or pipelines) ?…

Caller says he can save me 11pc on electricity....
.... but how can he know? Call from my gas supplier suggesting I switch to dual-fuel. Other than telling him which electricity supplier I'm with, he has no details of the tariff I'm on or what my last bill was. At least, I didn't tell him. So how can he possibly promise to save me at least 11pc a year? I would think it…

Cost of Heating
I use Kerosene (28 second oil) in my central heating boiler, the boiler is rated as 70% efficient. With a current cost of 70 pence per litre to refill the tank, when is it cheaper to use electricity for heating. I pay about 10 pence per Kwh as an average. Does anyone know how to work it out ? Thanks
