Got a letter from npower saying I'm now on Sign Online 21
I started the switch to npower's Sign Online 20 tariff last month. Today I got a letter from them saying: "Unfortunately we can't set you up on the tariff you asked for because of the kind of meter you've got." And that I'd be set up on the new Sign Online 21 tariff, which is, of course, more expensive. I've just phoned…

Future price increases
I am with Npower &, by changing my tariff, with them, to "Sign Online 21", I can nearly match any Online switching saving. This tariff is a variable price & tied into until March 2012. Is there any likelyhood that they might increase their prices, above everybody else's, & I am stuck until March 2012? Thanks, John

Are price comparison sites any good in my case?
My energy usage varies between winter and summer, not just in the 'normal' way of costing much less in summer because it's lighter and warmer! In summer I use an emersion heater on Economy 7 and also manage to get a lot of washing, etc done on the night rate because it's on until 8.30 in the morning. The only gas I use…

EON Question
I wondered if it was normal for Eon to send out a meter reader after a request for meter reading to be supplied online was sent. I submitted the readings within a day of receiving the email and a few days later received my bill calculated on these readings. As I pay DD I had more than enough to cover the bill so bill was…

Ebico Price increases.
Hi, I recently received a letter from Ebico detailing their planned price increases for 10 January 2011. I don't think there price increase is that bad considering, they have no standing charge, and I don't really use that much gas to heat my home. I was wondering what other users of Ebico think of these new prices?…

2 live wire arriving at my lights
All, I've got another thing puzzling me in my electrics: all my lights seem to have 2 neutral wires. I decided to try to measure voltage between live and each neutral with my Fluke, and albeit one reported 240V as expected, the other reported 170V! Also, the electrician connected both neutral together, is that the right…

High Bill for an apartment?
Hi everyone I moved into a rental accommodation ( 2 bedroom apartment) on the 24th August 2010. I was told by the letting agency that the supplier of energy was N power, ans to call them and give them my details. As this was my first move I was naive and did just that without asking too many questions. at first I didn't…

Change from pre-payment meter to standard
I have a friend who is on a pre-payment meter for both gas and electricity from British Gas. She would obviously like to take advantage of cheaper tariffs by switching suppliers and to standard credit meters. Does anyone have any recent experience of which suppliers would do this for free? Npower seems to be the cheapest…

First time movers
Hi all, Me and my boyfriend are wanting to move out of our parents homes. We are looking to rent first as no bank would accept us for a mortgage (we think). Could someone please give me some estimates on the bills please? Thanks

Eon Pre-payment meters
Hi, I've just got rid of tenants from a property I let and discovered that they had pre-payment meters fitted for both gas and electricity (both supplied by Eon). Both meters were in debit and the tenant had taken the keys/cards with them. I now have new keys/cards but I want the meters removed. I have contacted Eon but,…

Gas bill
We're having a pre-payment meter put in because we have a very high bill that we aren't able to pay off in one go. I said I would prefer not to have one and make monthly payments as we can't get in touch with our landlord to check this is OK. The person I spoke to at British Gas asked if I could borrow the money from a…

RCD tripping
Hello all, I just bought and moved into a house, and have a couple of tripping problems. Tripping occurs when: 1 - I switch off the tube light in the garage 2 - After few hours of leaving the hob extractor plugged in (I tried disconnecting the earth, and still have the same problem). My whole consumer unit is Wylex, single…

Transco have left my property a mess
Hi, So we had to have our gas switched off for 35 hours due to leak outside our house, in order to correct the leak and reconnect us they needed access to our property, which was fine BUT they have completely destroyed one half of the cupboard in the porch and left us with numerous pieces of wood that used to be a…

would you swap gas and elec supplier for a £165 a year saving?
Am wondering if it is worth it as I am happy with current supplier and I like the way their bills are laid out - I have changed a few times in past years and always found it a bit of a nightmare and nowhere near as easy as they claim...normally the problems have been new company not having correct readings and trying to…

Using different supplies for Gas and Electricity
Hi, I have just started to look at switching Utility provider to save some money. My current supplier (Scottish Power) gave me details of my yearly usage and KWH pricing for comparison. Putting the details in a spread sheet, I was surprised that there was more money to be saved by using different suppliers for Gas and…

Electricity Supply For Very Small Unit User (Rural Church)
Hiya, My local church uses very, very little electricity but we pay a fortune for it. However, it doesnt seem to be an easy task to find a supplier who will touch it with a barge pole. I wasnt expecting miracles, but even £20 would be worth it! Currently: Standing charge = 44.59p per day Annual usage c 100 units @ 16.89p…
