Eon Pre-payment meters

Hi,
I've just got rid of tenants from a property I let and discovered that they had pre-payment meters fitted for both gas and electricity (both supplied by Eon). Both meters were in debit and the tenant had taken the keys/cards with them. I now have new keys/cards but I want the meters removed. I have contacted Eon but, as yet, they haven't responded.
Will I have to pay to have the meters removed?

    Hi

Sounds like your old tenants had built up a debt which resulted in us fitting Prepayment Meters to claim this back.

The new key you've received will clear this debt from the meter.

In these situations, as you own the property and assuming you will now be responsible for future usage, we will generally agree to replace the prepayment meters with credit meters. This will be subject to a credit check and setting up a Monthly Direct Debit to cover ongoing usage.

There is currently a charge of £51.06 per meter to cover the work involved.

Hope this answers your question. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help.

    Hi

I'm sorry you haven't received a reply to your email yet.

On the electricity meter, the new key should have been initialised by putting it into the meter before any credit is put on to it. Do you know if this was done?

If the new key was registered with the meter in this way, a message saying token accepted should have been displayed.

If not, it may be necessary to arrange a visit to clear the meter down.

I would contact one of our Prepayment teams. They will arrange the visit and also make the necessary adjustments to your account.

You are not responsible for any of the debt built up by the previous tenants. If any has been taken from top ups you've made, this will be refunded to you.

However, the electricity standing charge will apply from the day responsibility for the energy reverted to you.

Hope this is useful and sorry again for the delay responding to your email. Give me a shout if I can help further as happy to do so.
