EON Question

I wondered if it was normal for Eon to send out a meter reader after a request for meter reading to be supplied online was sent. I submitted the readings within a day of receiving the email and a few days later received my bill calculated on these readings. As I pay DD I had more than enough to cover the bill so bill was paid and then approx' a week later a meter reader turned up saying Eon requested readings.
I have submitted readings online before but never had it followed up by a reader.

I do mine online with eon too and had my meters read the other week. I think they do it periodically just to check for themselves. I've seen somewhere that they try to send someone to read the meters at least once every two years no matter how you provide your readings.

Yes it happens to me a few times, they do have to read the meter themselves and some times it coincides with the reading you have just submitted.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • Thanks for the replies.
I should have added that usually I have a guy come to read the meter but due to the bad snow I received an email requesting readings. I have submitted them online a few times before over the last 10 or so years but never before when I have submitted one has someone turned up in the same period.
Looks likes its just a coincidence then.

My meters have been read by an external meter reading co.every quarter for the last ~18 months within a few days of submitting online readings to EON - my daughter has experienced the same.
Never happened before with my previous three suppliers.

    Hi newbie2010,

Just a bit of extra info for you.

E.ON are required by law to read customers meters once every 2 years, this is mainly for safety reasons.

Quite often customers provide their readings and meter reader also comes to read the meter as well.

Even if you manage your account online, meter readers will still call.

As you say you received an email notification asking for readings, it sounds like your bill was due but we hadn't had any readings.

The best thing to do, is to enter your readings a few days before your bill is due and let the data collector read the meter when he comes.

To Helena. Thank you. I understand the meters have to be read a certain number of times but the reason I wanted to query this is my bill was actually submitted early. My previous bill was 15/10/10 then around Christmas I received the email and a day or two after submitting the readings my bill was online dated 31/12/10. It also tells me my next bill is due around 13/04/11. As I said over the last 9 or 10 years I have received emails just a few times requesting readings but never had a meter reader come until the next bill is due.
  • NEWBIE,

the same things happens to us (not that it particularly bothers me). I did query it with the reader once and I think he said that he simply has a list of all the eon houses in the area and he goes and reads those. I assume it's easier to do it that way than constantly update the log with people who sign up for paperless billing some of whom probably still don't provide online reads.

    Hi newbie2010,

This does sound like your bills are being re-aligned to co-inside with when the meter readers call.

However, this is just speculation, without seeing your account I can't be sure :o

For now I would submit the readings when they are requested, if you feel that your bill dates and requests are staring to become irregular or a bit random, let me know and I will have a look in to it for you.

You can use the email address in my profile page to contact me.
