Hi I work for a large organisation and my department has been told today that each department within our organisation has to create a 'market stall' explaining what we do. I work in the accounts department, any ideas would be very welcome. Is there someone reading this whose company has done something similar? Jill x

Tax Implications of becoming a company director as well as an employee?
Hi, my other half has been gifted shares in the company he works for and offered the option of becoming a company director. He has been advised to seek advice on the implications in relation to tax. This is because, as well as receiving the salary (with commission), that he gets now, he will also receive dividends on the…

I've just registered on the HMRC site, I think I need to register for the low earnings /small earnings threshold - however does anyone know what happens if I end up earning more than the threshold? Do I have to inform HMRC, or does my application for the lower threshold automatically get discounted if I end up earning more…

Any bus drivers lurking?
My son has a telephone interview (hes already done the online one) for a job as a bus driver. Just wondered if any bus drivers may be lurking and could give a heads up in what type of questions specific to the job he may be asked so he can ponder some good replies before hes actually on the phone. Thank you.

P60: LEL vs Above LEL below PT
Hi everybody Sorry if this seems a really basic question but I can't find the answer online anywhere. Looking at my P60, I notice the column 'Earnings at the Lower Earnings Limit (LEL) (where earnings are equal to or exceed the Lower Earnings Limit)': I'm a student working part time and this figure is £3784. The column…

I've recently decided to go back contracting and the options I have are to go PAYE through the agency, use one of their approved Umbrella companies or go Ltd company. Ltd company makes most sense to me, but I'm highly unlikely to be able to open a business bank account due to my credit history, can I use a personal account…

Employment under Umbrella -- How much will I be paid?
I was recently contacted by a recruitment agency to undertake a 6 week contract, paying £100 per day. I've had the interview, and accepted the job, but I'm a little uncertain about the umbrella arrangement. I worked out I'll get £500 per week, so Employer's NI due is (500 - 153) * 13.8% = £47.88 per week. Expenses for…

What info should you give to an agency
I sent my cv to an agency yesterday for a permanent job not too far away from me, and today I've had a phone call from them for me to go for an interview with the agency to register, as she said they can't put me forward for the job unless I register. Now here's the thing: she said I have to bring a passport, full birth…

Joining a trade union?
After a period of unemployment, with some freelance work, I will be starting my first full time job next week. I was wondering whether it is a good idea to join a trade union. This is not for any ideological reason, but I figured it could be useful as an insurance policy in case of any employment disputes and so forth and…

Hello all, the company I work for recently called a meeting for all staff they informed us they are planning to shift us all from weekly to monthly pay. One of them lost around two thirds of their final wage packet (around £240) and the other was paid nothing…
