Feeling Low Please Help

To cut a long story short I started a new job a few weeks ago which is similar to the job i have been doing for the last 5 years, so experience wise i'm fine.

Today was my work review to which i was told everything was going fine and that i was doing well, it was then mentioned about a qualification they thought i had. I have never stated i had the qualification (not in interview or application) or lead them to believe i was qualified to this standard. My employer then stated this was an HR error and a requirement of the position, looking back at the initial job spec it did state a certain level was needed but i applied hoping my experience would be enough. I have signed a contract which did not state this either plus all my certificates were copied at the interview stage showing exactly what I could do...

I have now been told i must complete this qualification in order to keep my job, i don't really want to do this and feel stuck as it would be a two year course and require evening classes. What are your thoughts on this? Sorry to keep it vague but i don't want to incriminate myself! x

You could ask for a chance to prove yourself, but otherwise it would be very easy for them to give you notice and dismiss you.

So the choice is, gain said qualification or potentially become acquainted with JSA requirements.
Study for the qualification if you are unable to negotiate maintaining the status quo.

That is commonplace when the employer pays for a professional qualification.

Thanks, i understand its just so exhausting to think I am being punished for their error, i even explained in the interview what i was qualified to do. I would of stayed in my old job but now im stuck with the daunting process of driving another 60 miles two evenings a week just to keep the money coming in...

As its only a few weeks in, can the old job be resurrected or has that ship sailed?

Nope already gone. Im just so unsettled now, its hard enough starting something new but then to have the added pressure of 'well you shouldnt have really got the job'...

As someone else has said, I don't think there is anything to stop them from getting rid of you sadly if its not what you want.

Are they going to help you complete the qualification? i.e pay for it? Will the training prove useful after this job? If this is a career path you want to follow then completing the training might be good for you, or could prove useful in general for the future.
