As someone else has said, I don't think there is anything to stop them from getting rid of you sadly if its not what you want.

Are they going to help you complete the qualification? i.e pay for it? Will the training prove useful after this job? If this is a career path you want to follow then completing the training might be good for you, or could prove useful in general for the future.

I suppose deep down it probably is a useful qualification but i think mentally i need to be 'in the zone' to do it. As i said it will take around 2-3 years to complete and i have to sign to say that i wont leave the company. My head keeps saying: what if you fail, you already hate the company, you are tied for 3 years... Plus i will lose my home/family time.. sorry to seem like a moaner, i understand many people would love the chance but i think you have to want something rather than being forced. The job wasn't as expected and it wasn't my fault they hired me.

Sounds like your confidence is shot. Give yourself the weekend to think things over. If you've got this far, I can bet you can do these next exams too.

Don't be silly, you aren't a moaner. I understand what you are saying, if your heart isn't in it no point in starting it - I decided against a college course because it wasn't what I wanted, even though it probably could have been of use to me.

It seems that you are already unhappy there, if thats the case then I would be tempted to walk away (I know its not that easy!!). I agree, it was their fault but I don't think there is much you can do regarding that.

The only other thing I can think of... is there any other jobs available at that company that you could do? Think things over, maybe ask them for more information about the training and see how you feel then?

    Good luck

Personally I'd discuss with your manager that you don't want to do it, and if they say it is a definite requirement, then ask for 2-3 months notice to give you time to find something else and for them to recruit to fill your post, all the while they have someone there who (by their own admission) is competent enough to do the job.

Probably work out best for both of you.

Again thanks so much, it has helped just talking to people. Its nice to get someone else's perspective. You're right my heart isnt in it and it makes me miss my old job like crazy but i need to remind myself i left for a reason (i was too comfy there and progression wasn't an option) but maybe this one just isnt right either.

I need to listen to my gut (its always right) and give myself the same advice i would give someone else..look for another job and dont beat yourself up....as always things are easier said than done though x
