What info should you give to an agency

I sent my cv to an agency yesterday for a permanent job not too far away from me, and today I've had a phone call from them for me to go for an interview with the agency to register, as she said they can't put me forward for the job unless I register. Now here's the thing: she said I have to bring a passport, full birth certificate, something with NI number on, proof of address and what I've been doing for the last 5 years (employment and so forth) and bank details
This set alarm bells ringing and surely they shouldn't need my bank details. The job is with a company and is permanent.
I have made an appt to go and see them at 11.30 this morning for which I'm going to have to leave at about 10.30 (including the journey back and the appt, it's going to take up a good chunk of the day and I have a feeling that it's going to be a waste of time.
Should I bother? It seems they want an awful lot of info from me and is this usual?

They will probably only need your sort code and account number ,all agency's require this so they can pay you .0 -
They look like an agency as well. So you will be on their books for temporary work, hence the bank details.
They look legit to me. Website dates to 2001, filed accounts etc.0 -
Surely the company who I'm working for would be paying me? I've never been asked for this information before.
I don't think I'm going to bother, yes I know it means I won't be able to apply for the job, but there are plenty of others I can apply for, and plenty of agencies too.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £19,575.020 -

I don't understand the bit in bold, I know they're an agency.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £19,575.020 -
Abbafan - a lot of companies will pay the agency directly and not you hence why they are asking for your bank details. It is commonplace for this information to be requested0

Ok thanks.
I'm still going to give it a miss as it's a bit far to travel to the agency, I wouldn't mind if it was closer.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £19,575.020 -
The OP says they're applying for a permanent position.
I wouldn't expect the agency to require bank details in this case.
However the if the agency also deal with temporary staff where bank details are required then it may just be a mix up with the request.0
