What info should you give to an agency

You'll be paid by the agency so that's why they need your bank details.
It will be sort code and account number. They'll do it with all people they have on their books, perm or temp.
All agencies will ask for the same specific things to prove you have the right to work in the UK. (Even if you've lived here all your life, they can't discriminate)Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE

You only have to travel to the agency once, to register. They require your passport as ID and proof of your right to work in the UK, your NI and a proof of address are standard IDs. The only thing I dispute is the birth certificate - if you have all the other ID they don't actually need that. It may be a standard email they send to all candidates, which is why the bank detail point is on there - temps are paid via the agency, so would need to provide those.
Why would you miss out on a good job, locally to you, for the sake of half a day to register? It seems a bit short-sighted.Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

They will probably only need your sort code and account number ,all agency's require this so they can pay you .
This i'm afraid is complete *******. They only really should need your bank details once you have been given a confirmed assignment. They should not need this on registering.
Blimey, no wonder there is so much ID fraud these days:eek:0 -

they didn't email me, they rang me this morning.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -
To be honest, I am registered with quite a few agencies, and they only asked me for bank details when they have found you work (either temp or contract), and they are paying you and then invoicing the client.
I have NEVER been asked to give bank details to any agency before they have found work for me, or where I have been employed directly by one of their clients.
All of the rest - passport, NI etc is quite normal, although I have never been asked to supply a copy of my birth certificate.0 -
I've only ever handed over bank details when I was temping and had a confirmed job in place. I registered with an agency a couple of weeks ago for the same reason - had applied for a permanent job that was advertised via them. I had an interview with the agency (as well as the company) and had to provide passport and NI number. There was no mention of bank details and I wouldn't have given them in this situation.0

Sounds like you've got the chance of a job but can't be bothered going, so it's really nothing to do with them requiring some personal info.
Just be honest with yourself.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Pehaps if the agency didn't want The OP to jump through hoops they would be more keen to apply. Gone are the days it seems when you could turn up at an agency at 10.00 AM and then start work somewhere an hour later0 -
''Bank details'' or sort code and account number, which is all they will probably ask for,are perfectly safe to give to ANYONE.Only money can be payed in to your account using these details.
Have you ever used a cheque? Then youve handed over a lot more info than just sort code and acc. number.
And when you lose a bank card and get sent a new one, your sort code and account number always stays the same.Do you think the bank would do this if there was a threat to your account? If organized religion is the opium of the masses, then disorganized religion is the marijuana of the lunatic fringe.0 -

Writing down an account number and sort code isn't really jumping through hoops.
Shame we won't have the pleasure of the OP's follow up thread: My agency never paid my wages this month!Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0
